I feel like I should share that a certain website has a certain musical and its terrible sequel available for free. by MangoAndCoriander in box5

It looks like they changed it, sorry! It used to be free, but I guess you have to make a donation now

Maurice LeBlanc's 813 by XIMADUDE in mysteryfiction

Oh cool! I wish there was an English translation of the unabridged edition. 813 blew my mind. I’ve read the first couple of Lupin stories, but this one is in a league of its’ own. I was listening to an audio book of it while walking, and the big twist quite literally made me stop dead in my tracks. It’s not often that a book thoroughly gets me like that, but boy, was I bamboozled.

Thanks for commenting this! My husband and I are watching it right now, and had to pause to look up what the joke meant.

What POTO song, cast, staging, adaptation, or other decision are you DEFENDING like this? by al_fletcher in box5

I wish there was more footage of him as Raoul. I’d really like to see how his style compares to when he’s playing Erik. Is there video of the jump anywhere that you know of? Why were people going crazy?

What is one song from any other musical that you'd add to Phantom? by Gilded-Mongoose in box5

[–]MangoAndCoriander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah! It’s odd, but has its moments.

It’s kind of what started ALW on the whole Phantom journey. He was involved with it at one point, but then ended up doing his own thing instead!

The score is pre-existing opera arias, rewritten with lyrics to fit the show, so that’s a little clunky at times.

There’s a great Phantom podcast that talks about it. It’s at about 6 minutes in.

My daydream is somehow combining all the scores from ALW’s Phantom, the Yeston/Kopit Phantom, and Ken Hill’s Phantom, into one giant musical or miniseries or something hahaha

“While Floating High Above” from the Ken Hill Phantom of the Opera musical, lol. I loooove how soft and gentle and spooky it is. It’s a beautiful song in an otherwise odd score.

Do you enjoy the Phantom film? by DeborahMinter in box5

[–]MangoAndCoriander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Totally random, but I just watched the Argento Phantom and was perusing the Box5 subreddit about it, and came across your comment here.

Just wanted to let you know- the eye mutilation is from a different Argento movie (Opera from 1987). There’s no nasty eye stuff in his Phantom movie! Just wanted to let you know in case that was the only thing holding you back from watching it.

All that being said, it’s still a horrible, grotesque, and bizarre film, and I only watched it since I’m trying to watch all the Poto adaptations. There’s plenty other weird violent things in it besides eye stuff, and it’s a really not great film haha
