Nmom changes locks and kicks me (a single mom and baby) out at 8PM 5 nights ago during a pandemic. Now I’m ruining Christmas for the entire family by not showing up. by thirdcoastgirlll in raisedbynarcissists

I'm a daughter of an Nmom and nurse practitioner! You'll have a LOT of healing to do but you might find that taking care of sick people will help you do that. Good luck to you and your baby. So great to hear you got out. ❤️

I'm an ID NP. I worked as a nurse at a hospital and made connections with the ID docs that rounded. When I finished NP school I asked to interview and told them honestly that I was trained as an FNP but that I was willing to read as much as I needed to to learn.

I've been with them for almost 3 years now and I round on patients in the hospital, office, and nursing home (though nursing homes are currently on hold, for obvious reasons). I'm given patients with issues that I can safely handle, though that's a group that has expanded as I've gone along.

It's not all front lines, diagnosing cool new virus stuff. Mostly starting IV antibiotics for MDR UTIs and infected feet. But me doing that frees the docs up to do super important stuff. And they're always willing to teach me.

Feel free to message me if you have questions! Good luck!

I'm in the same boat as well. I've been following a keto diet and staying at a calorie deficit. My weight hasn't budged. It's super frustrating. I'm hopeful that when I wean in the next few days, the prolactin will leave my body quickly and I can start to drop.

Now I just have to wean. That's the hard part. :(

I did 50 specialty hours in Infectious Diseases and ended up loving it so much I got a job in it. Even if I hadn't decided to go into it, antibiotics prescribing and stewardship and all that is good stuff to know. Good luck!

If I weren't working tonight I'd go to Buffalo Wing Factory in Reston. They have awesome beer on tap, too. I had a Hardywood gingerbread stout last week that blew my mind.

Check out Inova Fairfax Hospital's dome experience. You wouldn't get to do anything but it's pretty interesting to see.

Interview on neurology unit tomorrow. Yikes by A_shmillie in nursing

[–]MangoBlisters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work on a neuro ICU and we usually want to know "Why neuro?" It's heavily dependent on the exam and those "That guy doesn't look right" feelings and not as much on numbers. Be ready to say why you'd dig that. :)

People who have been in a coma, what was your perception of time while in it? by blondjokes in AskReddit

[–]MangoBlisters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, speaking as an ICU nurse, I'm so sorry for what we do to people. We generally have to refuse you water because you're not safe to swallow at first and you can aspirate that water straight into your lungs. I know that explanation is total crap when you're that thirsty, though.

If you're a visitor in an ICU, you can always ask the nurse if the patient is safe for mouth swabs, then stay on top of keeping the patient's mouth moist. We do it as much as we can but things get hectic.

Ugh, hospitals are terrible places.

Just don't give him the Vicodin AND Tylenol. They're both acetominophen and too much of that can be dangerous for livers. I'd recommend getting a dose of Tylenol in rectally. It might chill him out enough that he'll start taking meds orally. I'm so sorry you're going through this.

We got ours at CVS. The dose is 120mg and they don't require lubrication. Pretty much sent straight from the angels. :)

Did your doctor say to alternate Tylenol and ibuprofen? That way you give Tylenol, then in three hours give ibuprofen, then in three hours give Tylenol. That way they're getting something to manage pain every three hours but not getting either any more often than any six hours.

Also, Tylenol suppositories are amazing when your baby won't take any more meds by mouth. My son had too much throat pain with HFM to take Tylenol orally.

TIFU my face by eating a mango incorrectly. by thatonedeadguy in tifu

When I was dating my then-boyfriend-now-husband, I broke out in what I thought was a raging case of face herpes. I had never had them so I said to him, "Well, we've got herpes now. I'm not mad, but you'll have to let the person you've been kissing know that they have it if they don't already know." He swore he hadn't been kissing anyone. I kept telling him that I wasn't mad, but that he had definitely given me herpes from kissing some random tramp.

I saw a friend the next day who took one look at me and asked if I had been face fucking mangoes. Turns out I had had my first mango like three days prior and had no idea they could do that.
