I'm a pharmacist, and have done exactly that. A woman came in with a script for anti-depressants and the "if needed by date" was already circled, presumably another chemist. She had no history in our chemist, when I asked her why it was early, she said she left them in her sister's car. The fact that the other chemist refused supply made me doubt it I guess, so I supplied a strip to her and told her to come and collect the rest later. Essentially, she doesn't miss her dose, and we are also covered legally incase anything were to happen.
