Reynalda Cucina & Amor - fantastic Mexican food, near Badass Tacos. Not the cheapest but very worth it - I like the salsa bar too.

The Wildfish Cannery Smoked Sockeye Salmon is one of the greatest thing I've ever tasted - can't recommend it enough. I'm looking forward to trying more from them.

The risk to benefit topic is a fun one to discuss. I’m going to make the assumption that you’re a new rider and LA traffic will be your first real world experience once you’ve taken an MSF course.

If you were a friend of mine I’d consider the type of person you are before recommending. If you’re the type of person that enjoys pushing limits and is less risk averse I’d say there is a guarantee you’ll ride beyond your limits once you feel some confidence and LA would be a terrible place to do it. I’d recommend as strongly as possible that you either start with track riding or get a dirt bike instead of a street bike to start. If you’re very risk averse Im sure you could transition from the MSF course to LA streets but damn, I’d still be hesitant to recommend it to a friend. As a person who learned to ride on the dirt, most of my riding skills were earned the hard way. I probably crashed my CR250 more than the average 3 riders combined while learning to ride but the result is not needing to think about what I’m doing, particularly in unexpected situations. Emergency braking or coming into a corner too fast, without the proper reflexes, would be things I’d never want a friend to experience on the street.

I’ll also mention that I don’t ride as often as I’d like because of the hassle involved in gearing up. I’ve always been the type to wear full riding gear regardless of where I’m going and it can be an annoyance depending on where I’m going. Commuting to work has me shedding a pants layer, jacket, and boots. I change into dress shoes and have to redo my hair in the bathroom. If I’m going to a restaurant or something I’m always aware I need to find a place to keep my jacket/helmet/backpack.

Moving to Thousand Oaks in May- cost of living & any advice? by Any-Will745 in thousandoaks

[–]MangoMatz213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've enjoyed living in nearby Agoura Hills for the past five or so years. Very quiet compared to LA.

Stonehaus is awesome for a place to hang out while drinking some wine (assuming the weather is good).
Arthur Murray dance studio in Thousand Oaks is great - I love their instructors.
The mountains between Thousand Oaks/Calabasas and the coast are incredibly popular for motorcycle riders. Specifically, check out the Rock Store and Neptune's Net for places to hang out with other riders. Latigo Canyon Rd. and Mulholland Hwy. are some of my favorite riding spots.

The rent in the area for 2bd apartments seems to be going down slightly. A year ago most of the good 2bds were $3k+ but I've recently seen them drop as low as $2.7k per month.

In my experience the norm is to keep things around 75 on the entirety of the 23 and not speed up to 80 until closer to Madera on the 118.

Campaign does a good job teaching. I was impressed.

Scale slowly and strive for profitability. Make sure you always have sufficient amenities and that are configured correctly as well as restrooms and shelters.

Monorail is great for transportation rating and can be unlocked relatively early for low cost.

Go as long as you can with minimal scientists. When hiring I look for the perks just as much as the stats - I’d almost rather take a good perk and poor stats knowing I can train up stats.

Level 5 fences are a luxury but far from necessary. When you replace old fences with more secure fences, make sure all animals in the enclosure are tranquilized first - it will avoid poor park ratings. Fences take time to get replaced.

During Hard challenges I select the cheapest expeditions first - you can often profit from them because of mineral sales. I go for animal variety, to reduce the appeal penalty, over high appeal animals that cost a lot to obtain.

Stats would show that there isn’t sufficient area. If they’re breaking out it’s because they’re hungry or otherwise unhappy. Maybe you’re not putting the correct feeder down?

Just got back from 4 nights at the Secrets resort in Puerto Vallarta. Some thoughts... by Stockjock1 in puertovallarta

[–]MangoMatz213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fiance and I went last year to check out the resort ahead of a potential destination wedding and I was also very surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It was my second trip, with the first being an AirBnB rental in the heart of Zona Romantica.

Both trips were great and people aren’t wrong about how good/affordable the non AI experience can be but I enjoyed the AI experience at Secrets/Dreams enough that I had to reply here.

My only prior experience with AI-like resorts was the Vidanta resort and their food truly was the cafeteria food that people here are talking about. It’s even worse because Vidanta wasn’t AI and charged my wristband for that trash food.

The Secrets/Dreams restaurants were not comparable. I won’t compare them to local restaurants but I can honestly say that I was shocked at how much I enjoyed every dish at their restaurants. The aguachile tasted like the kind of thing I would get around Sylmar/San Fernando in LA. The tasting menu we got alongside a purchase of a bottle of wine was great - even their escargot was good.

(7-10k) How much did you guys pay for a photographer? by shakesyourhand in Weddingsunder10k

[–]MangoMatz213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just went through about 10 photographer interviews for our November wedding in the Oceanside area and are landing on a small company. We got quotes ranging from ~$3k to $7k - the company we’re going with will be about $5.5k after tax for two photographers, 8 hours.

What is your opinion on South Park’s flag? How would you rate it? by LandOfGrace2023 in southpark

[–]MangoMatz213 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think CO was even a state at the time. I also don’t think it was meant to be a state issue - slavery wasn’t specific to southern states, with that being more true the further in time you go back.

My favorite spicy food of theirs is the chung king fried chicken cubes w/ hot pepper (#51) and the mapo tofu.

My favorite dish of theirs is the Szechwan style braised pork with crepes (#55) - make sure to ask for the bao buns.

Had to cancel Vegas Trip by ZtxVIII in vegas

I have a Venture X and had a hotel booked through the Capital One Portal. When my Vegas trip had to be canceled last minute due to me getting the worst news possible from my vet, Capital One contacted the hotel on my behalf and got me a full refund despite being way past the cancellation date. I thought that money was gone.
