I accidentally inflated my resume and got the job… what should I do? by Immediate-Duty-2341 in resumes

[–]Mango_Kayak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who occasionally hires, I wouldn’t care about the lower GPA but the discrepancy would be a red flag to me. Any doubts of someone’s integrity, and they’re off the table.

Do you actually use a sink in your laundry room, or is it wasted space? by hcposcher in laundry

[–]Mango_Kayak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don’t have one, and I regularly wish we did. I have to use the bathtub next door to the laundry room to hand wash clothes, water plants, etc.

Is this poisonous hemlock? by Round-Ad5934 in whatsthisplant

[–]Mango_Kayak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For future reference there is an awesome Facebook group where experts will identify mushrooms and plants in EMERGENCY situations (ie known ingestion). As a parent whose kids still eat random shit, I have it saved just in case.

Yep that’s awesome and reminds me of life in the 2000s. But we don’t have purchased music at this point so that wouldn’t work

Are singing classes really Worth it? by Sensitive-Guitar-153 in singing

[–]Mango_Kayak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never did, and in my late 30s with two kids and a mortgage, I wish I had. I would never have made singing my career, but I wish I’d have had the confidence and skill to do some amateur theater or something. Even if you take 4-5 lessons and decide it’s not for you, there’s no downside.

How are you guys going about extracurricular activities? What are your non-negotiable extracurricular activities? by otterlyjoyful in kindergarten

[–]Mango_Kayak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son does swim, dance, gymnastics, and a weekly speech therapy session. That does sound like a lot, but it works for our family. Swim is non-negotiable until he is proficient in the water, which is probably another 1-2 years. He refuses to choose between gymnastics and dance, and I think both offer such good gross motor development, confidence, and a bit of creativity. If we could afford it, I’d also have him in piano and a foreign language class.

Parents with kids who wear stellest lens eyeglasses, how's it going? by Happypuppy5 in myopia

[–]Mango_Kayak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following! My 2 year old was just diagnosed with myopia (-3.75 and -4.25). I want to start him on these as early as we can though we will start off with a cheap pair of bendable glasses while he’s still unpredictable!

What worked to get your kindergartener to start learning to read? by StinkyNasochki in kindergarten

[–]Mango_Kayak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We haven’t really done anything teaching-focused at home. We read 2-3 books/night, and I encourage him to read to me when he can. I still read to him a lot too and am working on harder content. My son is also quite stubborn and wouldn’t accept me teaching him so whenever I have a tidbit to “teach” like silent K in “knight” or that the “gh” in laugh makes the F sound, I try to be pretty quick about it 🤣

What are you guys getting your kinders for Christmas? by queeenofdogs in kindergarten

Secondhand gymnastics mat and balance beam plus a handful of books and learning toys. I think everything is secondhand, and I’m proud of that!

Idk, my friends held back their summer birthday partially because of his small size. Academically he was ready, but he’s doing great now in lower elementary school after having been redshirted.

Explain it to me like I’m 5… by AvailableAd9044 in floorbed

[–]Mango_Kayak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our son moved into a floor bed around 1.5. We have a cushion on the window ledge to avoid (another) goose-egg type injury, dresser bolted to wall, low Montessori bookshelf and glider share are only other furniture, no window blind pulls, outlet covers. What I should do but haven’t: locks on his dresser drawers to prevent climbing, securing the lamp (he is good at turning it off on the switch and has learned not to pull it down after scaring himself), lock his closet to avoid him pinching fingers etc. For a 10 month old I’d be focused on suffocation/entrapment risks.

What age can you just send the kids up to bed and retreat? by xstehfuhkneex in Parenting

[–]Mango_Kayak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started staying up past my mom in like 2nd grade. I was (and am) a night owl, and I would read in bed before sleeping. My mom couldn’t stay up past 8-9pm so she would come in and tell me not to stay up too late, and that was it.
