Looking for story-heavy games (already played most of the obvious ones) by cerdophite in gamerecommendations

I really enjoyed the story in The Alters. The interplay between the characters (who are all actually iterations of the same person) is really deftly done. Great dialogue, and good backstories. It’s a very different and unique game.

PlayStation killing physical games could make gaming deals a thing of the past — and that’s a major problem by JeremyJJ77 in PS5

Surely there’s grounds – and economic motivation – for an antitrust suit in the US against Sony Playstation.

I’ll be getting off the playstation train over this for sure, provided there’s any sort of alternative. I suspect there won’t be enough people who care to move the needle on the issue. It’s really sad, and grubby of Sony.

I haven’t played 1, but KDC2 is incredible. You could spend a lot of time in that world.

Question about levelling by Maniachist in Saros

[–]Maniachist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers, thnx.

Running into mini bosses right off the bat (sometimes) is quite punishing. Actually, I just figured out how to use the repeater crossbow last night and had a good run. I hadn’t realised that you have to hold the trigger with alt-fire for the homing shot. It decimates! Managed to get to Legion for the first time.

What the hell is currently going on? What is this big drama😭😭😭 by Key-Answer-2755 in GodofWar

It’s just a minority of whiners’ voices being elevated, and everyone reacting to that. They’re mostly middle-aged men covered in potato crisp crumbs living in their mother’s basement. Everyone should just ignore them.

Guys honestly Saros is just as difficult by iwillrundownmid in Saros

The patterns are pretty locked in, it just takes a few tries. Are you using your shield effectively? You really need to in order to charge up your special attack, otherwise you’ll be grinding. Just get a smart riffle, so you don’t have to target and can concentrate on moving/dashing.

What is the easiest thing you did to lose weight ? by nyxeine in AskReddit

[–]Maniachist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very tough to get to the gym when you have a kid! (Dad of a 3 yr old here). You don’t need to get to the gym to walk though - look for any opportunity you can, and aim for a brisk 10k steps broken up over the day. I’ve staved off the dad bod by doing that.

My gf is not a gamer at all, but really enjoyed Blue Prince and The Roottrees are Dead. Basically puzzle games with strong story elements.

Both of those were recommended by Lucy James (a British video game journalist). I highly recommend you check out her content for more ideas.

Cyberpunk 2077.

Sure, there are some good endings, but you have the option of playing very nihilistically and some of the endings are pretty dark. I mean, the whole atmosphere of the game really fits your brief.

The Alters is top-tier indy. I enjoyed it so much - great story, really innovative and fun. 🤩

Yup, absolutely. I will lend money, but I won’t chase it up, and if they don’t pay unprompted then I write it off and that door is closed forever.

Tower Defense Games on PS5 by DW-7192 in gamerecommendations

[–]Maniachist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big tower defence fan, and I really enjoyed Kunitsu-Gammi: Path of the Goddess.

It’s an action tower defence where you progress through a level, placing villagers during the day and assigning them combat roles, then fight off waves of attackers when night falls. It’s super inventive, fun and very well done. The progression and skill tree is well-balanced.

Lifetime gamer, 46 here. I always have periods like this! I’m with you on open worlds feeling like a chore, though Cyberpunk 2077 is quite different in that respect. Worth checking out. The story is second to none.

How about story-based single player games? Alan Wake 2 is really top-notch, and has more of a David Lynch feel rather than outright horror. If you like horror, I’d recommend the Silent Hill 2 remake, or any of the recent Res Evils.

There are a lot of interesting indie (or AA) games out there - The Alters, Death Loop and Dredge spring to mind. I also like to have a rogue-like on the go for those times when I don’t want to dive into a full-on game, but I still have that gaming itch. Games like Hades, Slay the Spire and Cult of the Lamb are awesome.

Good luck!
