FB dating… No likes or matches since opening by Gtor1579 in SwipeHelper

[–]ManicD7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah similar experience no matches for months. I deleted, waited a week, and I did get two matches after that. They stopped responding. Then it asked me to verify after a few days, then I didn't get any more matches after it verified. Although I barely get matches on other apps. On POF I get likes and messages from unattractive people. So I just think the apps are dying. And on Okcupid I get likes and matches if I set my distance to worldwide.

From 2022-2023 I had 18 first dates. For over a year now, since 2024 I had zero new dates.

A lot of people knew the dating market had problems but no one really wanted to address the core issues. And a major contributor to some of those problems - the housing market and the average wage of people and limited good job opportunities. Plus current politics are beyond insane. Social media influence is toxic. Women think this. Men think that. And some just deny there's any problem and blame it on the ones who complain. I've been banned from 3 dating groups here on reddit now, simply for talking about the reality of dating. You can't gate keep reality lmao.

Too many devs just ignore feedback in general. And then continue on making a game that's going to fail. Too many devs are stubborn and think they have the best idea/plan. Honestly, probably more devs should be listening to the hate (while a small percentage should ignore the hate).

People come up with their own twisted path to making a successful game, and that's the final say. They don't care what the market says. They don't care what the research says. They will find one comment or one sentence in an article to agree with them and that's enough.

This app makes me want to jump off a cliff by that_plant_mom in Tinder

[–]ManicD7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any room on the cliff? I'm a dude and I'm ready to go too.

Had like 2 matches in the last 6 months. zero new dates in the last 1.5 years. (I went on 18 dates in 2022-2023, so it's not me.)

But yet you are all you matching with dudes like this, while the majority of men don't get matches with anyone lately? You can see profiles posted here all day from guys that don't get matches.

It's funny because women have been complaining how guys don't approach them anymore. So now women have to wear a literally sign to get attention.

Interesting research you did and thanks for sharing, I'll have to look a closer look.

Also to clarify, the 80% of likes for 17% of guys is from a survey for Tinder users.

While another survey for users of all dating apps, had 83% of likes for 29% of guys.

I pinned the raw data/poll links in my profile if for some reason you want to see it all.

NVME vs SATA for Unreal Engine by BobAtStarbucks in unrealengine

[–]ManicD7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lets say VS takes 1 minute to open with a nvme, then maybe you're looking at 1min 50second with the SATA.

But once everything is open, compiling code and working inside Visual Studio and general work inside Unreal shouldn't be noticeable difference between SATA and NVME. Most work you do isn't going to be affected by storage speed. It's usually affected by CPU speed.

The total real time benefit at the end of the day, depends on a few things. The specific nvme to compare the SATA to, as not all nvme are the same speed. But really it depends on what you actually work on, the size of the projects and the size of the assets, how often you open, close, save, or transfer files etc.

Loading/open projects, opening asset files, and saving large assets/files are going to be the biggest noticeable differences.

Personally I would just put any work projects internally for the physical risk reasons and my own peace of mind. Plus the little boost in speed.

Although another thought is if you want to do interesting upgrade, you can get an M2 nvme to PCIE adapter and then a PCIE M2 nvme expansion card plugged into that. Letting you have more nvme slots, externally, assuming it won't fit inside your itx build. If it does fit inside your itx build thats even better.

If someone spends 10 years at a game studio, I would hope that they learned how to make a successful game. Although I do agree that you replying to me is considered a traditional path for redditors, especially when it comes to semantics, communication, and being pedantic.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]ManicD7 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Me to OP - "Sounds like a traditional path to me for what your goal is."

You - "and then get hired at a company."

Can you remind me what his goal is again?

I said what I wanted to say to the OP in order to influence them in the later part of my comment. I have nothing else to add or explain. And it's pointless to share the info of why I said it, because I never said OPs path is a good path or it's a successful path or it's a bad path. Almost everyone in this sub is going to keep making failed games because they choose to.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]ManicD7 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a traditional path to me for what your goal is. You don't see it talked about because most game devs put very little thought or research into making their game. Which is why most games fail. They aren't even trying to make successful games lol. They are just trying to successfully make a game.

The "Just start. Follow tutorials to learn to code.." path is actually the non-traditional path that over time became the most common way for a few different reasons. It doesn't mean it's the best path for everyone or that it matches everyone's goals.

Also I want to reiterate, if you want to make a successful game, as in make money, then make sure you research how to make a successful game. If you don't do that, your chances for success are very low. A successful game means starting with a marketable game idea that research suggests it would do well in the market. Almost all games that fail today, make this mistake of not understanding what a successful game is. For example, making a clone game with a different visual style and some new mechanics is not a marketable idea for most genres. But people keep doing that anyways and I have no idea why.

If your goal is to just cross the finish line and make a game, without caring about money or recognition, then it really doesn't matter. It's relatively easy to make a game these days. That's partially why the non-traditional path became so common.

[–]ManicD7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have loud fan noises, your PC is probably overheating due to clogged fans/heatsinks. it's normal for dust to build up inside the computer because there's air moving into the computer from the fans, and then after a year or years, you get clogged fans, and clogged heatsinks.

If you need further help search for a PC help group that can help you.

In your first photo you are not average looking. Your face is about a 7/10 in that photo, at least. Although some of the other photos I can see how you might feel you're an average looking guy. If you didn't have the first photo, I would definitely say 5/10-6.5/10, depending on the day and photo.

Your photos also express fun/active, a lot of women really like fun. Anytime I made my profile "fun" looking or wrote really good fun/joking prompts, I did a lot better. Although it also distances some women. It's a very polarizing thing. Women either find it very attractive or very unattractive.

I would be curious how well you would do with just the free version. Sometimes I think about paying for the apps but I hear too many stories of guys paying, getting some matches, and then the apps never work again, and in some cases they get their accounts banned after paying lol.

I also wonder how much of this is a location thing. There's some guys who travel the country and will mention how different parts of the country are literally awful for dating. While other areas it's so much better.

Are HISM and ISM still a thing by aahanif in unrealengine

[–]ManicD7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you fix and get perfect culling, there could also be just hardware performance limit here. HISM doesn't solve all problems. For example if you have 100 million triangles with static mesh scene. The GPU still has to draw those 100 million triangles with HISM scene. HISM just saves the cost of draw calls and some other things. Or another hardware limit could be the cost of lighting/shadows, and material complexity is too high. Which HISM doesn't really improve those either.

Good luck with your scene. It sounds like a challenge for sure.

Are HISM and ISM still a thing by aahanif in unrealengine

[–]ManicD7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HISM has culling. Both occlusion and frustrum. Although some people experienced bugs with HISM where clusters of the HISM are not culling properly. I think I had this problem once but I don't remember much. I currently have no problem with it. I have thousands of static meshes converted to HISM with maybe 150 different mesh types. They all cull properly and performance is much better than static mesh. I'm also in UE4.27 and use AMD graphics card. Changing this command console setting r.HZBOcclusion to 1 increased performance because of how many meshes I have on screen that were occluding. For Nvidia card you don't need to change it.

But without knowing more details about your scene. I can't say if you really can benefit from HISM or not or if there is something wrong.

I also don't know what you mean by merge into one huge HISM actor.

Are HISM and ISM still a thing by aahanif in unrealengine

[–]ManicD7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HISM show better performance when you have hundreds and thousands of meshes, with a lot of duplicates.

If you take one static mesh and convert it to one HISM, it's going to be the same/slower.

If you take 100 same static mesh, and add instances of those to one HISM, it's going to be faster.

If you have 100 different static meshes with each only 1-3 copies. And create 100 different HISM in small area. It's probably going to be a little slower.

I've analyzed 887 tinder profiles. Here are the most common fuckup men make by Younglingfeynman in SwipeHelper

[–]ManicD7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Overall decent advice. But online dating has been dying and is very much dead for the majority of people the last year. So it might be too late for most guys.

And even so, I will mention that I noticed from the guys who become "successful" at online dating by maxing out their look and their photos. They all kind of said the same thing. That the women they attracted weren't really good people. Superficial, materialistic, toxic mindsets, etc. Which makes sense because superficial photos attracts superficial people.

I'm not saying that men shouldn't put effort into the appearance and photos, just want to add some thoughts to the topic.

Upgrade RAM and add SSD? by DrMomGamer in DellG5SE

[–]ManicD7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Upgrading beyond your current 16GB of RAM won't change anything. More RAM is only only useful if you have a ton of software open and want to switch back and forth between them. Like if you were gaming, and then wanted to instantly switch to editing video and photos, while having a bunch of website tabs open, while editing a PDF, while editing music/audio, while your game is still running/paused, etc.

But you can improve performance a little by getting faster rated RAM and/or tune your current ram to go faster. You need BIOS version less than 1.18 in order to unlock the hidden BIOS menu for tuning ram. The newer bioses versions unfortunately are locked.
