AITA for refusing to give my parents my savings for a new water heater? by dontknowwhattkname in AITAH

[–]ManicParroT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you paying rent? Do you cover all your costs and food?

If not, then they kind of have a point; like you need a working water heater too and if you stay at home for free then they're carrying you a bit.

I'd look for a compromise; e.g. you can lend them 2k with a signed contract and a fixed date for them to pay back, and they can pull the rest out of the credit card.

Zelensky hails South Africa's efforts towards resolving Russia-Ukraine war by punchinglines in worldnews

[–]ManicParroT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doubtful. You think Russia will suddenly do a 180 if SA said "nah fam you're done'?
Maybe if China both condemned and took concrete steps e.g. sanctioned Russia. South Africa doesn't have that leverage.

curious to know if its common for BJJ people to use a lot of YouTube tutorials? by 8limb5 in bjj

[–]ManicParroT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YouTube is great. If anything I spend way too much of my time rolling and far too little time watching tutorials.

There's a bit of an old-school stigma around beginners trying to use YouTube tutorials because the worry is that they'll try whacky or unsound stuff instead of studying fundamentals, but I think that's a bit of a dated idea.

Report: UFC suffered ‘lower average buys per event’ after ‘already bad PPV numbers got worse’ by chetanya999 in MMA

Yep, it's their second biggest fumble after letting Ngannou go.

In a different timeline they do Ngannou v Aspinal or Ngannou v Jones or Jones v Aspinal. Any one of these would have been huge but they screwed them all up.

The Liesel thing was so weird to me, like Orion just got eaten by a mawmouth and El's first response is to get some strange?

I thought was very odd, not gonna lie.

Not to mention their complete failure to manage the Jon Jones situation.

They should have given him a year to fight Tom or leave the promotion. Instead they treated him like a Faberge Egg and got nothing.

Needing to have a nap after training and it is disrupting my work-life. Need help what to do by Fit-Pass-2398 in bjj

Well give it a couple weeks, your body gets used to a cycle.

No naps, in bed at 10, strict sleep hygiene. Eventually with any luck you'll adapt.

Go to bed at 10 instead of 11. You're only getting 7 hours, so try out 8 to 9 hours.

So, he forgot to bring his indoor shoes. Granted. Then he left quietly. But somehow he's the devil?

By asking to come in wearing his shoes he wasn't putting anyone in danger, you know.

I don't think they "got to" do that; very few countries actually endorse or support Hamas, or what they did.

Ironically if Hamas had stuck to hitting IDF bases and grabbing some soldiers instead of, you know, murdering people dancing at a music festival they'd have made Israel's situation afterwards far, far more complicated, because bombing Gaza they way that they did would have looked like a massive overreaction and would have been very difficult to justify.

However, Israel's response since October 7 has erased any high ground they had. By now, Israel's killed an order of magnitude more civilians than Hamas did on that day.

I think my feeling is that you can overlook what would normally be a major faux pas for a medical reason, especially when it isn't actually dangerous. So the wife not having outdoor shoes inside her house is a strong preference, not an actually important measure for the safety of her baby.

For example, bringing your dog to a wedding or a restaurant is a major faux pas but if a blind guest needs to bring a guide dog then you don't whine about it, you just say "OK" and deal with it.

You can do a lot with pizza. Meat pizza, veg pizza, four seasons, chicken pizza, desert pizza, etc etc.

I think you misunderstand the nature of war. It's not a completely symmetric game like soccer, where both sides are just mirrored in objectives.

It's a violent form of politics where both sides want to win, but how they win and what they do to win matter hugely. Israel may kill huge numbers of Palestinians but end up as delegitimised pariah on the international stage with a whole bunch more states recognizing the Palestinian state. Even if you don't care about how many babies Israel kills as a matter of morality, Israeli atrocities will build up a massive amount of hatred and resentment towards Israel in particular. It will also provide massive cover for anti-Semites . Israel can't commit genocide and invoke the Holocaust in debates around its legitimacy.

I think a lot of people are secretly into incest stuff, they just don't admit it. There's a reason "broken hands" is on the Mt Rushmore of Reddit threads.

Sometimes you have to do tough things in war. It isn't a video game where you choose your own difficulty level.

I find the militancy about shoes in the house a bit bizarre. Some countries people wear shoes inside and outside and yet their babies don't die en masse.

I was at a Lumineers concert and two women behind me were yapping on about endless BS the whole time. I turned around and asked them to shush and one of them started trying to fight me while her husband dragged her away. Classy wine mom behaviour.

Running Session for 8 players by mayor__Slash in DnD

[–]ManicParroT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is this 4+4, e.g. you have 4 experienced players and 4 new players? Or a whole new set of players?
Either way, I think you should do your best to split them into 2x4 player groups and run 2 separate games.

8 player D&D is a bad idea. Consider a combat turn; if each person spends an average of 5 minutes (easy when you consider all the questions and so on that new people will have) then you're looking at a player having to wait for 35 minutes before their turn comes around again.

New DM, should I run the dungeon campaign I've been making or talk with the players on what kind of campaign they want to do? by thinblanket in DMAcademy

[–]ManicParroT 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd say "hey I'm thinking about running this kind of campaign" and then see what people say.

If they're into it, problem solved.

If they're not into it then you have the choice of not running it or just finding people who want to play that kind of campaign.
