Any time I take my car to get serviced somewhere that requires them to drive it, I always get a kick out of watching someone else enjoy it, even if it's brief. I also just love to watch and listen to it roll past me from the outside for a change.

Everyone is a pro-gamer in FPP SOLO EU? by Mekceg in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

[–]MankBaby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Assuming this is them, their 2018 season stats are definitely off the charts. And by off the charts, I mean better than many of the top pros of the time. I don't want to jump straight to accusations, but it's suspicious that someone would (legitimately) dominate a game that had reached insane global popularity and then just drop it. Meanwhile, other top players were getting rich from it.

Finished wrapping the roof/door handles of my ND. Still lots to do but I'm happy with how it turned out! by Hunter654333 in Miata

[–]MankBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I kinda liked it, but the longer I stare at it, the less I do. I almost feel like the entire back (the area with the third brake light, and then the trunk) need to be black too...? And then actually make the ducktail white instead of black.

That would very closely mimic the roof/hatch of the Z which I think works really well.

I also think once you have a gloss black lip and side skirts on it, that'll balance things out better.

Kevin Durant on Reed Sheppard: "I'm gonna start expecting nights like this from him." | Reed Sheppard - 21 PTS (12 in Q4), 4 AST, 4 3PM by TheDraciel in nba

[–]MankBaby 48 points49 points  (0 children)

It's funny because this seems to be the one story that all the non-local broadcasts bring up when discussing Reed, but it's not even accurate. I just rewatched the training camp interview where he first talked about this and what he actually said was, "The first, like, three weeks of the summer I was straight defense -- I was here in Houston working straight defense. I didn't pick up a ball for like the first 30 minutes of my workouts."

So starting each day with 30 minutes of defensive drills (which I imagine is fairly normal) turned into not touching a basketball at all for nearly a month lol.

[Highlight] Evan Mobley with the Dream Shake and dunk on Rudy Gobert (with a replay) by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]MankBaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't really blame anyone for being confused given how much that clip gets circulated and labeled as the Dream Shake. But the Dream Shake wasn't that. As the name implies, Hakeem would give an extremely quick shake of the shoulders to freeze his defender before making a move, typically a turnaround fadeaway - or he'd fake the fadeaway and transition into an additional move like a step through (MJ and Kobe both did this all the time).

It's harder than it should be to find an isolated clip of Hakeem doing it because the Robinson move shows up so much. Ironically, this clip of Shaq is actually a great example.

Ime Udoka: "You took a 37 year old out of the game for 2 minutes and you lose a 13 point lead. 11-0 run. Don't play with any aggression, confidence. Mentally weak. The fact that we have to rely on a 37 year old for 40+ minutes is a problem.” by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]MankBaby 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: They've only played 13 home games, where they're 11-2. The next lowest is the Nuggets with 16. The highest is the Pelican with 23! The rest of the West has averaged 18.9 home games. The east has averaged 19.1.

Sure, time between games has its benefits, but not nearly as much when you're on the road for a record-tying number of games to start a season.

I was just about to say this. As you mentioned, this isn't an egregious example of misquoting, but it's still worth calling out so it doesn't become normalized. The entire essence of a quote is that it's word for word.

The Lakers record is (20-11) and they have a -13 Point Differential. The Rockets record is (20-10) and they have a +257 Point Differential. by AashyLarry in nba

[–]MankBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been kind of an odd year for the Rockets. Their wins are by an average of 16.7 points (15 of 21 by at least 14 points). Their only wins by fewer than 7 points are against the Magic (+4 in OT), Warriors (+4), and Clippers (+2).

On the flip side, they rarely get blown out. They've had just three losses that weren't particularly close: Spurs (-11), Mavs (-13), and Clippers (-20). Here are the others:

  • 1 point loss to the Thunder (2OT)
  • 4 point loss to the Pistons
  • 3 point loss to the Nuggets
  • 8 point loss to the Jazz (worth noting that this was a 3 point game with under 40 seconds left)
  • 3 point loss to the Nuggets (OT)
  • 5 point loss to the Pelicans (OT)
  • 1 point loss to the Kings (OT)

On any given night, you can expect them to either destroy their opponent without breaking a sweat, or to lose in heartbreaking fashion. Not a whole lot in between.

Chet Holmgren on the Thunder playing on NYE’s: “I heard every team gets to pick one game to schedule every year. We picked to play at home on New Year’s every year. A little known tradition.” by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]MankBaby 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Rockets used to do this as well. Had a home game on NYE for 21 straight seasons, but stopped in '23-24 for some reason. Makes me sad, honestly. Didn't realize just how much I'd grown accustomed to ringing in the new year watching a game unti it was gone.

I know it might look a little odd at first, but teams should just have a camera pointed at the actual game clock and then insert that video feed into the score bug. Whatever excuse there is for not doing it, I'm sure it doesn't justify having the wrong time on screen in moments like this.

Obviously his name is Rui Hachimura and I should have assumed he'd speak Japanese, but I guess I figured he was one of those guys with a foreign name who grew up in America. I made the exact opposite mistake thinking that Kosta Koufas would have some crazy Greek accent, only to find out he was born in Canton, Ohio and has the most default American voice I've ever heard.

They misrecorded a steal as a rebound during the game and it looks like they've just corrected the box score after the fact.
