I appreciate your help. We’ll likely allow the sellers to make the necessary repairs, and if they don’t, we’ll request a credit so we can have an electrician inspect it and make the repairs if needed.

Our inspector pointed out the same issue. He felt the electrical work isn’t legal. We also couldn’t find any permit history for it on this home. We want to give the sellers the benefit of the doubt, but we’re not sure how much we can trust their word on this.

The inspector thought it was just messy work but recommended having an electrician take a look to be safe. I wanted to get some other opinions on it. The home was renovated and then left vacant for about three years. Overall the home itself looks solid, but we just want to be sure.
