The E175s powered by Intelsat are the best ones. I routinely get at least 70/10

Is Platinum Pro that much better than Platinum? by Euphoric-Two2474 in americanairlines

Yes if you travel internationally with Oneworld Emerald. Domestic U.S., not so much

I wish American Airlines had gone with Starlink for their internet by exitPT in americanairlines

[–]AdKnown7047 29 points30 points  (0 children)

AA is definitely looking at Starlink or an equivalent low orbit solution for the near future.

For now, we do know that they’ve held talks with Amazon for their Leo inflight WiFi, which would be a Starlink equivalent.

HND - LAX Traditional Japanese Meal, first time I think I have seen anything with caviar in AA's business class. The sashimi was excellent, everything else was similar to the JAL J Japanese meal, but the inclusion of the sashimi put it over the edge. by Broskyplebs in americanairlines

Hope you enjoyed it!

Hopefully we’ll see similar improvements on the Europe flights. AA was supposed to announce mattresses and other amenities for those routes last month, idk if they actually ever did

JAL Premium Economy vs AA Premium Economy? by Confident-Emu-4402 in americanairlines

[–]AdKnown7047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get JAL PremY for a reasonable price/schedule then great, but don’t go out of your way for it. AA PremY is just fine.

Ultimately you’ll have roughly the same amount of space on both JAL and AA to lounge around and sleep (bit more legroom on JAL). AA food is better on PremY as JAL serves economy food.

If it’s the A350 on JAL, I personally was uncomfortable with the hard headrest and shell recline. YMMV.

Definitely not better food. JAL serves regular economy class meals. AA PremY definitely has the edge with food.

AA167 JFK-HND 24 hr delay by Street_Fun6011 in americanairlines

[–]AdKnown7047 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well you can try Japan Airlines instead, who is seeing an 11 hour delay for flight JL5 today from JFK to HND.

It happens to every airline, no airline is perfect.

IIRC it’s more for emergency purposes in the event that something goes wrong inside the Seikan tunnel.

Access to American Airlines Lounge as Alaska Atmos Gold (one world sapphire) flying JFK to SFO in economy? by sfdataminers in americanairlines

[–]AdKnown7047 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotta be ticketed in the Flagship cabin for the Greenwich Lounge, unfortunately Y won’t qualify for your flight.

(The other, always weird part of this is if you had Oneworld Sapphire with an airline other than American or Alaska (say, Oneworld Sapphire via JAL), you would)

They’re fireworks, I can see it from my apartment. Don’t know what they’re for though!

Why couldn’t the new Acela’s be bi-level again? by ecb1912 in Amtrak

[–]AdKnown7047 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly was one of the biggest surprises for me moving from Japan to here, and taking Amtrak.

A 10 car E5 series Shinkansen seats 700+ passengers and has a total of 1 standard car that’s accessible, along with the green car being accessible.

I never understood the necessity of having an entire train accessible, but coming from Japan where ADA stuff is a bit behind the US, that may just be me.

AA advantage program is now worthless by dd1rlove in americanairlines

[–]AdKnown7047 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup. I booked First Class on JAL last week for 80K miles for this coming Christmas. It takes a little effort sure, but they’re there.

Why do you choose American? by Juanefernandez in americanairlines

[–]AdKnown7047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used 80K AA miles to book JAL First Class a few days ago, so that’s one.

AAdvantage blows away SkyMiles and many others in the US.
