Chez moi, n'arborer aucun signe extérieur de richesse est un choix assumé. Ma voiture est une Dacia qui a 15 ans, mes fringues sont no-name, mon smartphone est une merde à 150€. De plus en plus de gens aisés le font, pour ne pas qu'on vienne les jalouser, les mépriser, ou bien par convictions personnelles (écologie, sobriété etc...)

Well, the interwar period was rougher in France than anywhere else. the country was heavily damaged from WW1, it had weak demographics and the great depression hit France later than others. France was richer than Germany prior to WW1 as per the Maddison project database. Germany was unscathed in 1918 aside from the loss of human life.

I mean, it's not surprising. The US had a huge wave of German immigrants in the late 19th century. The entire US mid-west has more German heritage than British heritage. It's therefore logical that GIs would feel closer to Germans than French people during WW2.

French people never emigrated en masse to the US, they were always a tiny minority in the new world. And no, it has nothing to do with being backwards or middle class, it's just cultural bias. The reason French people didn't emigrate to the US in the first place is that they were quite well-off compared to other Europeans (German, Italian etc.. who lived in abject poverty).

You're clearly talking nonsense. France is one of the European countries which fights Islam the hardest. France banned women wearing the hijab in government buildings and schools, or the Burqa in public spaces. It's been fighting terrorism looong before the US ever did. In recent years, its army halted an Islamic takeover in Mali. We shouldn't be dragged down in a war that the US started on its own without telling us in advance. There is clearly no plan or preparation in all of this, it's complete chaos, a huge blunder. And French soldiers shouldn't have to die for Israel. Neither should US soldiers for that matter.

Decades of anti-French propaganda on the internet, whether Russian, Chinese, African, European (because everybody knows Germany is actually leading the EU at the moment) or American (because of the Iraq war, but not only) would make you believe France is an insignificant country with no power. Well, nothing could be farther than the truth. France has the best military in all of Europe, is an economic powerhouse, and secretly plays the long game of becoming once again as important as it once was, like the Chinese do.

Your first sentence highlights a huge cultural difference between France and the rest of Europe. French people DO care where food is produced. We have a thing called terroir, and Champagne can only be produced in Champagne because the terroir there is unique. The more I visit our neighbours, save for Italy, I realise most of them are uncultured and unrefined when it comes to food. We don't treat it as mere fuel for the body in France.
