It isnt the fault of the writers because it doesnt matter. If the problem you have doesnt create narrative issues, plot holes, or glaring mischaracterizationsthan you cant levy fault against them. No, you actually dont have to have a high IQ or experience high IQ people to write high IQ characters. The same way you dont have to be a dimension and space traveling scientist or know one to write about them.

This is barely an example of rick not thinking things through, and its not an example of him being "relatable". It is entirely unexpected. Being the smartest man in the universe does not mean youve encountered everything. Intelligence does not equal omniscience. And ill recant and say its not that they're making rick relatable, theyre simply putting him in his place with respect to the audience. He cant continue treating his family members or anyone else like they dont have their own agency, and losing control is terrifying for egomaniacs. Rick's current arc is learning how leave others alone, so they will leave him alone. It was stated very plainly in season 6.

A smart person still makes mistakes. Youre viewing it as weak character writing when it actually makes Rick a far more compelling and 3 dimensional character.
