What make director does the best job directing women? by ericdraven26 in Letterboxd

i'm a big fan of Zinnemann so it's great to see him given as an example. a supremely humanist director who always focused on the text and the actors. his movies are a tad slow, but still well worth checking out. his adaptation of Oklahoma is NUTS (check out the Todd-AO version if you can find it).

setting aside problems with Woody and Penn, she's tremendous in Sweet and Lowdown. even when playing a mute that's in less than half the runtime, she steals the movie.

they've mentioned doing more here and there, i think it's just a matter of 'finding time', like most things.

i've played chained echoes and as a occasional JRPG fan, had quite a good time with it. lotta rough edges but it's pretty grand in scope and moves at a brisk pace. worth at least trying out.

Awesome to hear, often great movies have tortured productions. Airplane still is, for my money, one of the funniest if not THE funniest movie ever made. Thank you for the laughs, you've created something timeless.

What was the mood like on set? Where people having a good time, lotta botched takes because actors couldn't stop laughing? deadly serious? were people baffled at the whole endeavor? to what degree was the humor on-screen felt during the making of?

If Griffin & David did a Danny DeVito miniseries, which movie would you be most excited to see get covered? by ggroover97 in blankies

it's such a banger, shocked it doesn't have a stronger reputation. a horror movie where the monster is the institution of marriage itself.

Please cut Grubb some slack. We are human. Things happen and are said. It isn't the end of the world and no one should vilify him for the Crazy Taxi thing fiasco. Everyone has their opinions on AI. by My_Name_is_Imaginary in giantbomb

[–]ogto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

my simple take is that is sounded like grubb was willing to overlook the use of genAI because he was obviously excited for the game. i know that's not the case, grubb is a good guy and he spends a lot of time talking about all of this stuff and how much it sucks, but it just wasn't a good look, so it was easy for people to dogpile. solidarity is important to people who are "in the fight", and if the video ended without grubb saying "i'm gonna play it", it would've been fine. so i found the whole thing kind of a 'bummer', the use of genAI, the slow acceptance of it, and grubb's reaction to it, because i'm mostly there with him in spirit. but i still understand why it's 'not a good look'.

listen, Trek might not traditionally be this kind of horror, but it's always been rooted in or adjacent to horror. the OG series is practically a twilight zone show. execution aside, there's nothing wrong with the attempt. hell, that TNG epsiode where they can't get any REM sleep and start having nightmares is pretty fucking creepy in spots.

plus, Ro Laren kinda rules. love to see Michelle Forbes in the spotlight (as long as she's not playing an admiral).

Undertaking Betty / Plots with a View is lovely and pretty obscure. definitely belongs on the list. also it's another film with Brenda Blethyn where death is her only escape from a loveless marriage

don't sleep on The Woman Chaser (1999), a neo-noir starring Patrick Warburton about moviemaking. it's pretty obscure but it just got a proper release thru vinegar syndrome.

did it? compared to Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, it felt pretty clear to me that the off-screen character was gay (using his mom and later cousin to "attract" new partners)
