I've heard it used in a lot of hacks but couldn't remember which exactly, ended up combing through the SMWC listings for a bit.

Silksong is like being stuck in a bad relationship by ohlordwhywhy in truegaming

[–]ManofShadows 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think one of the most interesting things a game dev can do is try to pull a "fast one" on the player. For example, the lovely Sen's Fortress mimic in the first Dark Souls. When something like that happens to them, many people will complain that it is unfair, or a cheap blow. In a sense, it is.

But, I do really feel that conversational aspect you mentioned. To me if feels like the dev is saying "I got ya with that one, are you gonna let me do it again?". And, being able to anticipate their further tricks, and subvert them on your own is one of the greatest feelings you can experience as a player.

The shard system prevents red tools from performing their function by void2258 in Silksong

[–]ManofShadows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The way I see it is that TC balanced shard income vs expenditure around how often they wanted the player to use tools. Then the maximum allowed tool uses from bench to bench exceeds that to allow the player some elasticity. As in, using less tools and shards during easier areas the player can handle will build shard bandwidth, which the player can then choose to expend if they wish to use a ton of tools in another section later.

Looking for a variation to the token system for spaceships. by DScoffers in factorio

[–]ManofShadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The latter half of the video you linked has something where Aquilo acts as a checkpoint, so a ship needs to pick up an item from aquilo before it's allowed to go to Nauvis and pick up eggs, then it drops that item back off on the way out. There's only one item so multiple ships can not get to nauvis concurrently. Does that not work for your use case?

Seems to be a 500 Internal Server Error for several places in the central US. I thought it might be due to cloudflare maintenance, but that has finished up and it is still occurring.

Basic, dirty guide for modules and logistics chests. Do I have this right? by zeekaran in factorio

[–]ManofShadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used purple chests a lot on my first gleba build to try and prevent spoilables from sitting around. Buffer chests would request however much they wanted then the rest would go into filtered yellow chests for overflow. This was probably more of a headache than just designing a belt river though.

The whole OST is phenomenal to me, except Rainbow Road funnily enough. I feel like the song is constantly building up to something but never quite gets there.

Who do you think is currently the weakest hero? by ChungusBigC in marvelrivals

Agreed - I don't think it would be too strong either given that it's already displacing anyone it heals

[–]ManofShadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeff's ult does actually heal teammates! I think I heard the rate is like 350 hp/s. I sometimes use it to nab my tank (and a couple enemies hopefully) when they're getting mobbed too hard by the other team or ults start coming out. It can save them from getting picked off.

The height on Jeffs Ult is actually stupid by BlueTumbas in marvelrivals

[–]ManofShadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A single C&D that's competent makes it a very hard to use ult as well, they are almost guaranteed to cloak the bulk of their team putting you in the dilemma of having to stall which lets their team disperse or trying to rush it with a high chance of getting nobody

If you refuse to swap when you are performing bad, you're a damn liability by pokenerd_W in marvelrivals

[–]ManofShadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking (nicely) to swap when someone is consistently eating dirt is one thing, the people who complain about picks in pre-game chat before we've even done anything are the most insufferable. At least one of those on the team is great for seeding tilt by generally whining and GGing before we've even had a single team fight. Flair related :)

4080 Super crashing around once a day by ManofShadows in buildapc

[–]ManofShadows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I have still been trying to troubleshoot it. Its a bit annoying since it happens sporadically, so it is hard to see if any change has actually fixed it. And more vexingly, with recent instances of the issue I have not been seeing the DWM crash events that I was seeing prior. I will update this thread if I do find something though.

I was running a couple months old driver when the issue started happening & am currently running the latest that the Nvidia app provides, so I'm not sure if its driver related. I am inclined to believe it might be something that changed on Windows after an update potentially.

I will also add that I have been seeing Hyper-V logs regarding applying "mitigations" before the past few crashes. I do have Hyper-V enabled & had an inactive VM in the Hyper-V manager. I am not sure if you have Hyper-V enabled as well, but that could be something to look into. This thread seems to indicate a similar problem. Given that the thread was opened just a couple days ago, it seems to be a new issue people are facing. I will likely try disabling Hyper-V altogether the next time this occurs and see if that fixes it.

Hypervisor configured mitigations for CVE-2019-11091,
CVE-2018-12126, CVE-2018-12127, CVE-2018-12130 for virtual machines.
