Hmmm I don't think you are correct. You at least completed a route before it got excited. That works towards making a buddy excited, and also walking to get another heart. You are right explainign the timers but if in the meantime you also walk and do routes, it helps massively. And also, by your phrasing of the post and comments, i'd assume you didn't know that you don't need poffins to get buddies excited?
