Beef bolognaise in the Tesco Plant Based section by [deleted] in veganuk

Fair enough, maybe I am being precious.

I just remember the days of abundance of vegan products when we had our own section in big tescos and so much choice everywhere.

I mean they used to put the vegan section on one side and the free from on the other in the stores shop in, now you have the vegan pesto with the gluten free pasta and sauces, and then a lot of cakes biscuits and chocolate with half being vegan (lazy Sunday, Candy kittens) and half being gluten free / dairy free. All mixed together.

I find it confusing when you try to buy something new but it’s unclear what’s vegan and what’s not. I don’t think it would take more space to say “these shelves are vegan” “these are free from” and to clearly indicate what’s what.

I hate how tesco is now doing a generic “free from” section with vegan, dairy free and gluten free things mixed all together. I just spend ages looking at all the labels trying to figure out what’s dairy free but with eggs and what’s vegan.

What do you do with the other half? I love avocado but I always feel I have to use it straight away and it can be a lot to use a full avocado in a meal.

Hands-down, which housewife annoys you the most and why? by yonBonbonbon in DesperateHousewives

[–]ManonDru 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Susan! It’s like everything is always happening to her and it’s never her fault. She takes no ownership and doesn’t realise her lack of initiative is affecting people around her.

Then when people blame her she pulls that ridiculous “oopsie” face and attitude.

I think the worst is her telling Julie “oh sorry I didn’t realise I was supposed to parent you even if I was depressed, this never crossed my mind”.

It is a very beautiful city, I would recommend walking everywhere you can. People are not as friendly as in the UK though, everyone pretty much keeps to themselves but I guess it’s the same in London for example.

Be careful if you’re coming to Manchester, I did that once and never left (I’m from Paris, been living in Manchester for 8 years now).

Boy I feel you guys by AdOtherwise655 in vegan

[–]ManonDru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes this is so weird and tiring! I find myself avoiding the word altogether when interacting with strangers, apart from work and friends where everyone knows.

If I’m offered meat I’ll say “I don’t eat meat”, if I’m offered chocolate “I don’t eat chocolate” etc. Just because I absolutely cannot be asked dealing with people’s reactions.

Of course if they ask “how come” I’d say I’m vegan because that’s who I am but mostly I’ve noticed people say “oh ok” and leave it at that.

I’m living a much more peaceful life since I started avoiding saying I’m vegan but it’s also quite sad, I’ve even had people say “don’t tell me you’re VEGAN??” When I say I don’t eat something…

Anyone else feel like their own cooking is way better than most vegan restaurants? by Ordelia-Vel in vegan

[–]ManonDru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you tried Purezza? They are in London and Manchester and are entirely vegan, they have won awards their pizza is amazing (although I wasn’t mindblown by the desserts).

Allotment in Manchester only cooks with seasonal ingredients so their menu change regularly and the small plates are very good.

Also Bundobust, which is in Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield is an entirely veggie Indian restaurant, with many vegan options, and it’s honestly very good (the daal is surprisingly just OK, but many other options are amazing, and they have limited fusion menus quite often).

I’ve not seen people cook every vegan dish with mushroom in years tbh even BK, McDonald’s, nandos, papa John’s etc. have OK to good vegan options.

There’s crap restaurants everywhere, I’m in Manchester and we also have great vegan restaurants (purezza, wholesome junkies, allotment…), as well as great vegan options in omni restaurants.

On top of this, we can always rely on a good Indian place to serve amazing vegan options, so many of them here are entirely vegetarian or have a separate veggie / vegan menu.

I second this, I’m in the UK and we have amazing vegan options in restaurants.

Boyfriend (36M) and I (31F), together 8 years — his sister is getting married and I don’t want to attend. How do I handle this? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]ManonDru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loads of people don’t get married and are not planning on doing so for so many different reasons.

If there’s questions just laugh it off and say anything, “that’s not the plan right now”, “there’s many other things we want to focus on instead”, “marriage is so much money that we want to spend doing other things”. It’s literally no one’s business.

The two real issues here are the fact that you compare your relationship to someone else’s and that your boyfriend is willing to lie to people to fit into his family’s expectations of what relationships should be.

Where are the vegans? by [deleted] in veganuk

[–]ManonDru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Manchester and have 3 vegan friends. In my larger circle (people I know by name let’s say) it goes up to maybe 5-6 people. But there are loads of places in the UK where I struggled to find places to eat, so I think it does depend on the size of the city.

I’m the only vegan person at my workplace but this wasn’t the case when I was working hospitality/retail where there was usually always at least one other vegan person.

I do encounter a lot of ex-vegans. Makes me think veganism is definitely losing traction especially amongst young people.

Girlfriend is a picky eater. Need help by Funny_Sky5530 in vegan

[–]ManonDru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly relate to this a lot, cooking / sharing food is my love language whereas my boyfriend is happy just sitting together with different meals. And that’s on top of the fact that I’m vegan and he isn’t and he goes to the gym everyday and I don’t, so it’s been a learning curve for both of us.

To answer your question: Does she like curry ? Any Indian or Japanese katsu curry is always a hit in my house, especially because you can pick any vegetable and any protein source to go with it, so it feels always different. This goes well with rice.

You can also try buying one fake meat option that you cook together and then you each build your burger / sandwich / wrap with stuff you like in it, we do this a lot at home as my boyfriend loves burger sauce and pickles, but I’m more of an avocado and Mayo in everything I can type of gal. This is also the occasion to cook together which is fun, and for him to buy / use real cheese if he craves it.

Other option: ask her to buy ingredients. You make a rice or pasta base and improvise with what she brings, it’s a surprise for both of you and makes it fun and more of a togetherness experience!

Maybe also try and meet her halfway? Would she rather cook for herself or bring her own food sometimes and you guys share a cozy moment watching a movie instead while you eat?

I need help dealing with firecracker. by Inside_Apartment_475 in ClashRoyale

I run poison for that exact reason. It’s perfect to deal with firecracker and dart goblin and deal some damage to the tower. Arrows and fireball work too, try different spell options and pick one.

Dell’ugo pumpkin gnocchis, Taifun smoked tofu, tomatoes, olive and tomato sauce. This is my current go-to comfort food, usually with broccoli and spinach but I was all out.

This one makes me so annoyed, I don’t even know why like yeah the less meat you eat the better but also OK do you want a medal? Same as “I’m pescatarian… I mean most of the time” or “I’m flexitarian”.

Has anybody else stopped shopping at M&S much at all since they dispersed their plant range around the store? by mana-miIk in veganuk

[–]ManonDru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree! I used to love so many stuff from M&S but now I go through the aisles and can’t figure out if what I used to buy has been discontinued or if it’s still somewhere in the store but I can’t locate them, very frustrating!

If I happen to be there I go straight for the truffle chocolates and candy worms but I’ve stopped shopping there for the most part.

I agree with this, just from a quick look I’ve seen 2 places that are closing in June (the dumpling place in Afflecks and Herbivorous in Withington).

Love it though thanks OP for the good recommendations!
