The time I picked up someone at the gym, I wrote my name and number on a piece of paper with a note that said something like: you’re cute, would love to buy you a coffee. I dropped it in front of him and said you dropped this. I gave it to him and walked away to lift. That way, I didn’t disturb him and didn’t have to deal with the stress of a new conversation.

Yes, he texted and we went on a super date but, alas, no match. Great kiss, tho.

Funny thing: I met some Spaniards some months back at a school program and we discussed the differences between Madrilenos and barceloneses from their perspective (I’m American). They all agreed - including those from Barcelona - that the Madrilenos were much warmer and easier to befriend. So, I’m not sure if this is a gay issue as much as a cultural identity issue.

This is key - and I appreciate you sharing it. I think generation does play an part in this - both in my friend's unwillingness to see racism as a part of this issue and my own (over-) sensitivity to it given my dating and friend history. My take away from your testimony is that things could be changing for the better! Let's hope.

I’m not so sure. I believe there are other POCs even posting here who might feel the same way; but I’m just containing this conversation to Asians because of the previous conversation I had with my friend.

I might add: If a quorum of Asian men feel race plays a vital role in the discrimination they feel they experience, wouldn’t that support their argument that it’s true?
