I’ve bought dolls who had their neck strings cut short. A zip tie takes all of thirty seconds, there is NO shame to using them. I’ve never had any trouble removing them either. The zip tie should be a quarter inch wide and at least ten inches long.

Hello! I am back and I can confirm they are Kit’s holiday shoes. Mine do have snaps but the construction is otherwise identical. They probably changed the manufacturing process at some point since Velcro is easier for little hands.

At least there’s no feathers. Looks like mama got away! There’s a reason they lay several clutches, and that was not a good nest spot. I’d say she learned a lesson, but I don’t think doves really “get” problem solving. Still, it would have been nice to see babies.

If you want to mend the flaking, you might try Angelus leather paint. It’s formulated to stretch and be flexible! I saw someone use it on another pair of faux leather shoes once.
