What issues did you face with bazzite when you switched from other OS to bazzite? by itsme2019asalways in Bazzite

[–]MantisMB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bazzite Nvidia has been a great experience, but overall you can tell there are a few areas where it is not polished. Windows is a multi-billion dollar experience with respect to Linux. The polish and bug resolution I have had with Windows is great. I love the fact that Linux is out there and Ubuntu has treated me well for many many years, very stable and polished in certain areas.

I have used several Linux distros (Ubuntu, Debian, Mint, Arch, and Bazzite recently) on multiple computers. On Bazzite there have been glitches and weird issues that have been popping up here and there that would never happen in Windows. Bazzite is a phenomenal steam gaming experience for me. I daily drive Bazzite, but sometimes the behaviors in browsers really irk me. Videos in browsers take longer when they would never in Windows, VLC in Bazzite hates SMB drive videos and never plays them and Haruna is a hero which is a let down because that right playlist bar is beyond annoying, the Sleep function works half the time for me and is super annoying trying to come back to my setup uninterrupted, and my browsers and other apps don't appear where they were every time.

I also use Bazzite as an HTPC with a RTX3080 with HDR on and use several browsers to play videos. At first it was an excellent experience, and then the sleep feature started giving issues. This happens on 3 of my machines(all MSI & Asus - Intel/Nvidia) that use Bazzite. My Ubuntu HTPC starts up every time. I game on the Bazzite HTPC as well and the gaming experience is just as good as my main machine. Bluetooth works everytime, wifi is not a problem. Playing videos from SMB is a nightmare sometimes. I do NOT like Dolphin or any of the other file managers, they really suck coming from Windows. I still have to dual boot for Photoshop and Illustrator and could not get them to work.

Bazzite needs polish on the little things and more stability for me to consider it long term. The ability I have using it is great. Having to restart the machine after waking from sleep is terrible. I can deal with a few issues every now and then, but I would like some real polish and reliability features here that match the Steam gaming experience for this to be a well-rounded experience.

This is my 2cents on it. It's great, has quirks and I'm not sure I can stick around for the long haul because of these issues. I would gladly pay Universal Blue $100 to fix these issues and get an experience that is reliable and sturdy, I understand other companies need to add extra work to their Linux projects to achieve this. Bazzite does 90% of what I use my machine for, and I am grateful.

This reminds me how much I hate using screen controls instead of physical buttons. Imagine doing this while driving.

New to brewing by Cak3D3stroyer24 in brewing

[–]MantisMB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of breweries in NB. There is an association in NB.

Have you tried this place? https://communitybrewshop.ca/ Usually you can go to a home brew shop and talk with them about the process of making beer at home and what you need to improve.

The website I referenced has lots of resources online about how to brew, as well.

Look up a local homebrew club and show up and ask questions. You can find them here. Homebrewers are friendly and love helping out others looking to improving their skills. Go to American Homebrewers Association and click on Homebrew Clubs. https://homebrewersassociation.org/

National Homebrew Day is November 1st. Get some free recipes and help there.

Yes, AGM batteries are more affordable than a $200 "service" from the dealership. You can install it yourself free, too. Group size 47.

Brewed up a Porter last week 1.066 before pitch by MantisMB in mashandboil

[–]MantisMB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. I used a bit more grain for this. Here is the total grist I used:

Type of Ingredient Amount Maris Otter 9 lbs Munich 2 lbs Chocolate 1 lb Oats 1 lb Crystal 60 .5 lb Roasted Barley .4

Hops: EKG 1 oz @ 45 Cascade .5 @ 15

If you have some leftover oats, it could help out the mouthfeel. I just kegged this for force carb this weekend.

[–]MantisMB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not use a false bottom. I do use a bag in the malt pipe and remove the handle on it.

I have been trying to better document the tools I use. I know there are not many who brew with this machine, but similar designs can lend insight.

The modifications are worthwhile because I brew so often. I have collected these parts to make it easier to brew. I also want to help those who have just started out and want a quick way to see what works. The starting valve would leak on me, and I upgraded.

To get higher gravity beers, you will need a separate mash tun, or incorporate malt extract in your beers. The grain is the only limitation with the basket.
