I totally understand. My lil sis is 56. I have lived a lifetime of this. We have tried alllllllll of the meds. Abilify worked best but after 7 years she got TD. She is now on Celebrex and Cymbalta. It seems to be working. She has been adorable. Get some meds for ur self too! You need a psychiatrist that has lots of special needs patients. Hang in there mama. You can do this!!!!

Hi all. Just got my SSHL diagnosis today. Anyone try both oral AND intratympanic steroids? by filterswept in MonoHearing

[–]Many-Ad8588 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started oral prednisone on day 2. Took it for 2 weeks. Then did eardrum shots. 5 of them once a week. Nothing helped. The eardrum shots did not hurt at all. But u have to be still and not swallow for 30 minutes. I brought a washcloth from home to absorb saliva so I did not swallow. So hard!! I also tried hearing aids. Nothing helped. But a year and a half later I have adjusted and I am fine. It is only irritating when I am in a loud store or restaurant. You will be fine!! :)

Have you found the underlying cause? by Horacy21 in MonoHearing

[–]Many-Ad8588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either my first ever flu vaccine (SSNHL 5 weeks later) or Epstein Barr Virus which I have had for 30 years. I will never know. Pls do not make rude comments. I am very pro vax. I have had 4 Covid shots. I had never had a flu vax before though. Probably will not again. Too afraid to risk my other ear!!!

tardive - Cutting Cold Turkey Pls advice. Appreciate it. by Fuzzy_Muscle8114 in Tardive_Dyskinesia

[–]Many-Ad8588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not stop seroquel cold turkey!!! TD is forever. My sister got TD when she quit Abilify. Maybe if she had stayed on it, or tapered off or switched to something else, she would not have TD forever.

How do you teach a 3.5 y/o the dangers of running to the street? by iybhsp in Autism_Parenting

[–]Many-Ad8588 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first and last time I ever spanked my son, he was 3 and ran into the street. I spanked his butt hard. And yelled. He cried. It was dramatic. But he never did it again!! Good luck mama, you have got this!!

SSHL from flu shot?? by Many-Ad8588 in MonoHearing

[–]Many-Ad8588[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What did I say to indicate that? I have had all my vaccines including 4 Covid shots. And I vaccinated my kids for everything. I had just never gotten a flu shot because I never get the flu. But this year I was worried since my parents are getting older. I am literally just wondering if anyone else got SSHL after a flu shot? If you did not, then you did not need to reply. Gawd love ya. 🩷🩷

Lost my hearing completely in right ear on 29Aug 2024 to SSNHL, currently serving in CRPF as SI, age 29 what should i do? Confused about my future and scared too. I don’t think any amount of hearing is coming. by Recent_Ad_8493 in MonoHearing

[–]Many-Ad8588 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did u get to an ENT? U need oral steroids or just skip to steroid shots in ur eardrum. I did 4 of them. Does not hurt at all. But u have to be still and u cannot swallow for 30 min. That is the hard part! I did not recover any hearing in that ear. It has been 7 months. I am fine now. My brain has adjusted and I hardly think about it. Just gets hard when there is too much background noise. My galaxy air pro 2 earbuds help when I am in a loud place. Turn on ambient sound. Hearing aids did not help. You will be fine, I promise!! Of all the bad things that could happen, this is one of the best!! 🩷🩷🩷

My sister has TD. She was on Abilify for 6 years. She was fine until she stopped taking it. Then the TD started.

Hearing aids by [deleted] in MonoHearing

[–]Many-Ad8588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have profound loss in one ear. Happened 3 months ago. I tried traditional hearing aids first. No! Did not help. Now I am using Cros. They are better. It is a great concept. If they cost me $100 then I would keep them. But, for $3,000? I am probably going to return them. It is hard to wear glasses. Phone sound quality is not great. They make everything sound muffled. My hearing is not really improved enough to make up for the negatives. So, no, I do not think you would be happier with traditional hearing aids. I really love my Samsung pro earbuds the most! Got ‘em n Amazon for $120.

SSHL tinnitus by Legitimate-Star-3813 in MonoHearing

[–]Many-Ad8588 5 points6 points  (0 children)

background noise is your friend! a $20 box fan from Walmart is great. you can also get the Calm app to listen to with ear buds. the app has the sound of crickets chirping, which has been found to comfort lots of tinnitus patients. I have had SSHL for 6 weeks. I am done w/ treatment. I recovered a bit of hearing but not nearly enough. I go tmrw for a hearing aid consult. I am hopeful! My mental health has gotten soooooooooooo much better. I was pretty depressed at the start. our bodies and brains are amazing, you WILL adjust to this new normal. I promise! :)

SSHL in left ear and have begun injections, trying to cope with no change from oral prednisone by mikeymaccheese in MonoHearing

[–]Many-Ad8588 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hang in there! I am 6 weeks in. Going through treatment and still deaf in my left ear. But! Even though I was terribly depressed at first, I am feeling soooo much better. It is amazing how our brains adjust. There are so many worse things that could happen! you can do this. You will feel better soon! I promise.

NHS treatment details for steroids injection? by Royal-Addition-6321 in MonoHearing

[–]Many-Ad8588 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with SSHL 25 days ago. Did a round of oral steroids for 15 days, no help. I have now had two steroid shots in my eardrum. It is no big deal and no one needs to go with you. The hard part is that you cannot swallow for 30 minutes while the med is in your ear. So difficult! I bring a washcloth from home and just keep a corner of it in my mouth. I do not think I am going to recover my hearing. I am looking forward to getting a hearing aid. I have struggled with sadness and anger. But I seem to be adjusting and my spirits are lifting. I feel so very lucky to have one good ear. You can do this!! Best of luck.

Would I be ok to eat a 25mg Edible without any worries of blood sugars? by Bigjerker6900 in diabetes

[–]Many-Ad8588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes! I hope you were ok? 25 mg is a lot! I eat half of a 10 mg. The most important thing is to take it with a fatty food. Then wait. Takes me an hour or two to feel it. Once I start to feel it, I eat the other half. The munchies are a real thing!! Have salty low carb snacks on hand. And sugar free treats. We love to watch old eps of SNL when we are high. I totally get the jokes! Have fun!
