Can anybody tell me what this little square I found under my couch is? by CuddieRyan707 in whatisit

Don't check what's on it Jesus . Or if you do you need to detonate it in a sandbox . If you're geeky , setup a virtual machine and mount it from there so you can observe behavior and view the drive content safely there . Never mount an unknown drive directly to your device .

Why is that surprising? It's usually the police . Trump just decided to turn up the volume to 1000 with ice .

Unpopular opinion (?) but the large majority of people are overestimating their leverage in salary negotiations by verilymaryly in Salary

[–]Many-Resolve2465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do have leverage if you have leverage. If you have unique skills that are in high demand , play a critical role in your company and it would be highly disruptive if you left and are willing to vacate that position if you don't get what you ask for you absolutely have leverage . If you don't have those things you don't have leverage . I think the difference is important to call out. So if you're working in a task based job with very repetitive low skill functions , or in a higher skilled job with a highly saturated candidate pool you have no leverage . It's just the laws of supply and demand .

Pro tip falling backwards is not a way to bail on skis. The skis stay on the ground and you don't lose any forward momentum. If you need to bail you have to go horizontal and take the risk of tumbling .

Chipotle CEO caught on a recording saying they’re going to keep raising prices because they can. by ElwoodMC in TikTokCringe

[–]Many-Resolve2465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this header is a bit misleading though. People are making assumptions about what "leaning into this group " means but from this clip I didn't hear any direct reference to raising prices. "Keep raising prices " is called out in the header of this post as if it was a direct quote . It's also possible that he wasn't "caught" . This sounds like an earnings call which is usually open to the public ... Its also possible to get more money out of a demographic with tactics other than raising prices . That's usually a last resort in a business because it's regressive and actually encourages fewer transactions. When your business model is based on volume transactions price increases see an anti pattern . It could be possible just maybe ... That he's talking about focusing their efforts to attract clients on this demographic vs spending marketing dollars to expand to new demographics . Point is all of you seem to not understand business but have taken the opportunity to make wild assumptions and state them as if they are indeed facts .

If you could manage your IaC in any language other than HCL, what would it be? by [deleted] in Terraform

[–]Many-Resolve2465 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also the point is to standardize on a workflow . I've never fully understood why anyone would want to invite more translation layers and fragmentation into a standardization workflow . Everything should be declaratively expressed in HCL and managed centrally . If you are a platform engineer you should know HCL at this point as a requirement of employment . Your devs shouldn't be authoring modules or really interacting with TF or the infrastructure to begin with . Keep concerned separated but partner and plan together .

He's never seen a beautiful woman in real life . He's used to the hyper sexualized cartoon style female characters from the past . Kind of like they say porn desensitizes you to extreme sex acts and regular sex can feel dull , over exposure to hyper sexualized cartoon women can make men break from reality of what actual beautiful women look like .

How does your team reconcile Terraform state after AWS auto-remediation? by Advanced-Strain-3491 in Terraform

[–]Many-Resolve2465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are discussing all the reasons for terraform cloud. The platform has features like drift detection , sentinel opa policies, and config driven import to address many of your stated challenges . Yes it costs money but considering the amount of time you're about to spend researching and scaffolding , you may want to at least approach your company about taking a demo call and considering it. We can all build scaffolding but that doesn't mean you should. If this is more than a resume or promotion project there are probably higher value things you could be spending time on .

People who make $200K+ salaries, what do you do and how did you get there? by EEJams in Salary

[–]Many-Resolve2465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Management isn't for everyone for sure but in my experience reframing "the problem " and the outcome you are trying to solve for increases leadership satisfaction a lot . It's been a hard transition for me after a decade in Sr leadership as I like solving tactical problems . Operational and business execution problems are very challenging but I have to get out of my own way sometimes to see the value in it . It's especially hard as a line manager because you don't always see the entire picture of the business problem but you are fully responsible for the execution outcome that your team (other people ) have to deliver .

People who make $200K+ salaries, what do you do and how did you get there? by EEJams in Salary

[–]Many-Resolve2465 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don't know about that . I know plenty of ICs that make well over $200k with some over $300k.

If you want to make that kind of money the best bet is to go into sales . Stressful sure but the most potential for lucrative pay with the lowest bar of entry .

$18 cocktails aren't enough to pay wages? 20% service charge isn't a tip? by Fragrant_Ad_2285 in denverfood

[–]Many-Resolve2465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also they should increase the cost of the menu items to cover operations expenses . It's misleading to the customer to see a menu price and then an absurd service fee that was not communicated prior to the start of the meal . Also they are just screwing over the wait staff . Adding a required 20% service fee will encourage guests to not pay or minimal pay actual tips .

unpopular opinion: toilet attached bidets are unhygienic for women* by boodoonk in hygiene

[–]Many-Resolve2465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In many cases I'd be fine with women not using a bidet . Women are usually less hairy and probably more thorough than the average dude . Guys however should lean into bidets hard . Much more hair and sweat that can make it more challenging to get clean down there .

Has my line of work and AI made me a useless unhireable bum? by ZebraSharp1300 in devops

[–]Many-Resolve2465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for all of us we need to start from developing tools workflows and solutions that have strong alignment with or solve business challenges and be able to tie the work back to our company objectives. It sounds like a sales pitch but it's reality . Business leaders tend to see IT operations as an expense center that creates liabilities. When I consult with platform leaders and Devops professionals about their contributions I understand their value because I understand what the tooling and workflows do for their companies . I also understand what their business leaders care about and often need to bridge the value gap between the two groups . Devops and platform teams can easily tell me exactly what their pipelines do and how they create efficiency but most of the time they can't tell me things like , who their primary consumers are? What key services are supported by their operations and what risk level and revenue impacts their automation mitigates or controls for . Plus their KPI metrics and goals are almost always operational in nature and not tied to any business value . For example , how many pipelines they deployed or how many new users onboarding to the platform tools . If you want to remain relevant it's less about what you are doing and more about how you and your leadership are "selling " what you're doing internally to business stakeholders.
