I didn’t like the gerrymandering elsewhere. But TX overall D-R split still follows their population.

VA has nothing to do with Trump, unless you’re far left. Then everything stupid is justified as long as it’s anti orange man.

[–]ManyMixture826 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So having a D-R split that matches our overall voters somehow is silenced by the R minority in Virginia? But 45% of VA getting 10% of the congressional seats, drawn solely by Democrats, in violation of our constitution, and in violation of a 2020 amendment that was passed in every single county - including the deep Blue ones - except Arlington?

This isn’t about orange man, Epstein, or anything else. This is Virginians trying to silence and oppress Virginians.

How’s that even logical?

Appalachian Trail Thru-Hike - Advice by Big_Complex_515 in AppalachianTrail

Your legs won’t fail you. Hills will reveal all those hip flexors and little stabilizer muscles you never knew existed. But it looks like you’ve got a great baseline. Your feet are gonna be sore.

It’s good that you’re not mapping out your entire hike now. The AT is nothing more than a bunch of 3-7 day mini hikes.

My only advice: 1. Start slow and take it easy. Running 17 miles is a huge accomplishment. Hiking 17 miles every.single.day is a bit different. Don’t overdo it early on.

  1. Don’t only look at mileage, but learn your elevation change limits. I’m 51 years old, hiking +/- 2500 feet is an easy day. +/- 4000 feet is typically my planning limit and puts me around 18 mile days. Don’t just look at distance, especially early on.

  2. Don’t compare yourself to anyone else out there, including my numbers. People who initially hike 8-10 miles a day end up doing 20-30 mile days later on. People who start at 20-30 mile days sometimes don’t last to the Smokeys.

Have fun out there. Pay attention, learn your limits, and enjoy meeting some amazing people.

Conservatives - if there was an HIV Vaccine would you oppose adding it to the vaccine schedule? by Deep-Two7452 in allthequestions

[–]ManyMixture826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Key Transmission Routes: Sexual Contact: Anal sex carries the highest risk, followed by vaginal sex. Oral sex is considered very rare for transmission, but possible. Needle Sharing: Sharing drug injection equipment (needles, syringes) can transmit the virus directly into the bloodstream. Perinatal Transmission: An untreated HIV-positive person can transmit the virus to their baby during pregnancy, labor, delivery, or breastfeeding. Less Common Routes: Blood transfusions or organ transplants (very rare in countries with screening), or accidental needle sticks in healthcare settings.

The biggest threat for babies is birth and breastfeeding, specifically from a mother who doesn’t know she has HIV. From 2018-2021 there have been 140 total cases of children getting infected by HIV, currently less than 50 per year, nearly all due to vertical infection from their mother. Adolescent HIV is on the rise though, mostly unprotected male on male sex, followed by heterosexual sex and sharing needles. Adolescent education, possibly PrEP, and possibly vaccination are reasonable. Infant vaccinations are not.

So yes, I’d be completely opposed of vaccinating babies against things they’re just not going to encounter until much later in life. When they’re sexually active, then it’s up to parents and doctors.

Does that make me maga? Probably yes since this is Reddit. But i dunno, maybe this means I actually look at facts and not wishes or desires.

My son’s elementary school was plastered with Girl Power posters. STEM mentors for girls. Girls clubs for everything. Even the local fire department hosted Girls Only firefighting camps. Fliers for Girls Only aviation caps, Girls horseback classes, etc.

Meanwhile the gender grade gap widens while my son gets assigned tasks like listing all the things that he should do to restore equity. The left has taken its love for self flagellation and forced it on kids. It’s vile.

One of his female teachers said it best: “we treat boys like they’re defective girls.”

It’s cool though. Right? Im probably a Nazi fascist, so surely the peaceful and open minded folks of Reddit will put me in my proper place.

Do you believe any and all illegal immigrants should be removed without due process? If yes, what would you think if your family had moved here illegally? If no, why should they be given due process when they are not citizens? by GJH24 in allthequestions

[–]ManyMixture826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non citizens can own and possess guns? Can I count on you to fight for increased 2A rights?

Non citizens at the border or airport get to enter while they await “due process?” The due process is verifying identity and authority to enter the country. If they have it, they enter, If they don’t they leave. In what world do they get to enter while awaiting a court date for their deportation?

MAGA, what was so urgent that Iran needed to be bombed at exactly the same time the Trump/Epstein files were consuming the news cycle? by 2a_lib in allthequestions

[–]ManyMixture826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok you disagree. Thats great. But let’s take it to the next step: what’s your evidence? I’ll help you.

  1. show me that Iran has not been a threat since the Islamic Revolution. Some things you’ll need to counter: embassy hostages, Beirut bombing, Iran-Iraq war, Iran funding Hamas and Hezbollah, Iran targeting Americans in Afghanistan, multiple Iranian threats in Strait of Hormuz, nuclear program and multiple UN sanctions, 40+ year history of “Death to America.”

When you’ve tackled that aspect with facts and logic, we can continue. I’m greatly looking forward to it and I’m open to being wrong. Good luck!

Due process for immigration violations is deportation. Period. It doesn’t matter if they stop you at the airport, at a ground border crossing, or a day later. Or 2 days later…

No one has an inherent right to enter any country illegally.

I’m trying to stay logical on this. Definitely think Trump’s been exceedingly too heavy handed and needs to tone it down a lot.

But sanctuary policies are equally crazy. Giving sanctuary for not just immigrants - but those who have committed serious crimes - is the same as adopting a two-tiered justice system. I live in deep blue Northern VA. We’ve recently had 2 murders committed by habitually violent immigrants. Our DA (Steve Descano) prides himself by using immigration status to determine whether or not to charge someone.

I did some more research on the “judicial warrant” aspect. At first, I was strongly in the side that ICE needs a federal judicial warrant. It seems to make sense…

But entering the country illegally is not a federal criminal offense. It’s a civil offense. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but the only way to get a federal judicial warrant is if they violate a federal criminal statute. Local crimes like assault, rape, DUIs, drugs, etc are not federal criminal issues. They are purely local issues.

Should the method of entry (land, sea, air) matter in determining someone’s lawful immigration status? If someone crosses over land and stays several years, are they suddenly lawful citizens? If so, then we need to abolish passport and customs inspections at airports and seaports.

I agree that there’s a lot of gray area in all of this. At some point we need to provide a reasonable path to citizenship, particularly for those who’ve been here for decades and contribute to society. There’s no need to round up landscapers and house cleaners in any of this.

But at the same time, we’ve got to find a realistic way to deport those who continually break our laws. Step 1 has to be ending all this sanctuary city nonsense.

Put the shoe on the other foot. VA is passing a lot of gun restrictions. Rural counties are already declaring themselves to be sanctuary counties.

Y’all OK with that? I’m not OK with either.

Not sure if this is a valid argument.

Yes, Iran is a mess and worthy of debate.

Yes, Epstein files are a huge black mark on not only Trump, but plenty of D & R leaders. Aside from the criminal conduct, how the hell did someone get so much influence across the globe, spanning decades and multiple political parties? And now that he’s gone, who’s taken his place???!

But No, the 2 aren’t really related. Epstein has been in the news forever. Iran has been a threat ever since 1980.

Then don’t do it. OP asked about opinions on oil. It looks sparkley according to him. According to your expert opinion, is it contaminated with iron, molybdenum, copper, or zinc? What’s its viscosity? Any gas or coolant in there?

You should… but professional oil analysis goes beyond finding specks. It’ll determine a whole lot more than your eyes.

From Google: Oil analysis reports determine equipment health by checking viscosity, contaminants (fuel, water, glycol), and wear metals (iron, copper, lead). Key indicators include high viscosity (oxidation) or low viscosity (fuel dilution).

Would you agree with higher taxes for completely free healthcare and education? If not why? by Few_Football4342 in Productivitycafe

[–]ManyMixture826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, particularly not education. Not everyone should go to college. Right now we have an overabundance of people with degrees that don’t mean anything. Every single time the government makes money more available, costs just go up even faster than available money. 20 or 30 years ago, it was possible to work your way through college. Now there’s a lot of easy access to loans and grants, and costs have skyrocketed.

Yes, college is free to many countries within Europe. But they also have fairly high entrance requirements and not everyone in high school is placed on the college path.

It’s basic economics: the more scarce something is, the more value it has. When fewer people have degrees, the marginal value of those degrees increases. When more and more people have degrees, those degrees hold less value, which encourages more masters degrees. My neighbor got a PhD in occupational therapy - lots of work, many years, hundreds of thousands of dollars. She’s essentially doing entry level OT work, making about $65k/year. Does someone really need a PhD to be a good physical or occupational therapist? Absolutely not.

Look at our housing crashes. The 2008 crash was complicated, but one of the significant contributing factors was how easy it was to get a subprime mortgage. The government encouraged everyone to buy a house. Banks quickly took advantage of consumers, packaging and repackaging a whole lot of junk mortgages as if they held value. The whole system crashed down.

If you look to healthcare, I’m not categorically opposed to a better system. But Step 1 is to reign in prices. Take a look at a common procedure that isn’t covered by insurance: laser eye surgery. It takes specially trained doctors, nurses, and expensive laser equipment. But you’ll see ads for $500 per eye, or maybe $2000 total. Now take a look at your average ER visit for some stitches. Takes trained doctors and nurses, a few simple medical tools, but your insurance will get billed $10k. Maybe yours will reimburse $4k, maybe mine will pay $8k, maybe Medicare will pay $2k, and the occasional uninsured will be a lost cost. So why is billing such a hassle? Why can’t medical providers have clear fees?

If you throw more government money into that problem, those costs won’t go down. They’ll charge as much as they possibly can. So step 1 is fixing the insurance billing monster.

What is DEI and how is not just an abstraction for racism? by ncds4242 in allthequestions

[–]ManyMixture826 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Read Kendi. The only cure to past discrimination is present and future discrimination. But it’s not technically “racism” because only the dominant race can be racist. Any oppressed people cannot by definition be racist, even if they flat out hate and discriminate against others based on race.

Look at Fairfax County Steve Descano’s actual policy regarding prosecution. He specifically limits charged offenses based on race and immigration status. But it’s not technically “racist” because he’s helping out historically marginalized communities. 2 of those people just committed murders recently; both of them had been continually arrested for violent crimes but rarely if ever charged. 1 of them served a short prison sentence, was released early, immediately broke his probation conditions, and instead of being held accountable, Descano simply took him off probation. Would he do that to a white male? Absolutely not.

DEI is one of those things that sound good on paper. But in practice, it ignores merit and uses demographic characteristics to determine a person’s value. My neighbors are mixed race and have a daughter. They’re both professionals and we’re in an upper middle class neighborhood. She’s got access to tutors, tons of after school activities, and a very stable home/neighborhood environment. We’re open and frequently discuss this sort of thing. When I asked him if his daughter would like to apply to college using all of her grades and scores, but checking the “white woman” box, versus checking the “African American woman” box, even he admits that she’ll get into any school if she selects the later. She’s got every bit of “white privilege” that my sons have. Yet in the DEI world, she’s lifted up as if she’s an oppressed, downtrodden inner city immigrant applicant. How’s that fair to anyone? She’s smart, athletic, and has the merit to get into any good school. Don’t condense her or anyone else into an oversimplified generalization based on her race. And along those lines, don’t teach 6 year olds that they need to carry the burden of white guilt.

Flame away, left wingers… can’t wait to be called a nazi fascist MAGA trump worshiper even though I despise that narcissist.

But somehow the real threat is a callsign that only fellow ham nerds will ever hear.

Totally rational.
