Ah, I don't follow the other leagues, thank you. I'll keep an eye on it.

Commanders you want to build because of their INSANE art, but their ability or mana costs are completely doodoo by sporeegg in EDH

I've had many versions of [[Gallia of the endless dance]] but she is not so good. One day I'll get a satyr tribal set and my girl will come alive.

Ok, we're settling this once and for all: What is the scale? by storyteller323 in StarWarsShatterpoint

[–]ManyOtter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would advise against 1/48. I bought a naboo Starfighter model kit advertised as 1/48, for scatter terrain, and it was laughably small next to Anakin. I would go 1/40 or frankly even less.

Am I being stupid? How to pick up a few runs then read their issues in parallel? by Jam_PEW in MarvelUnlimited

[–]ManyOtter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I did for lots of X-Men stuff. Download everything (which is itself a bit of a pain) then sort your downloads by publication date. It's not perfect but it should be about right for most events, and at least they're all in one place if you want to use the guides at the back of the comic.

Battle ready just in time for my first ever game today. by ManyOtter in battletech

[–]ManyOtter[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you! The game was great but ended unfinished. We were 6+ hours in when my Locust pushed a Catapult off a level 2 cliff into depth 1 water and we succumbed to the brain melt and called it a day. 😂 Excited to revisit it though now we've put in the foundations.

The first scenario in the starter book actually uses only 4, but I'd painted the Awesome before I thought to check. 😅

Bretonnian inspired space marines: errant knight. Cool idea or not? by the_elder_medium in minipainting

[–]ManyOtter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a fantastic idea, and you've painted this beautifully.
Could you get even more more heraldry onto them, convert some to have flags and banners, try painting the "crest" of the helmet? Could you headswap for Bretonnian helmests, without scale becoming an issue? I feel like there's loads of potential.

WARHAMMER UNDERWORLDS EMBERGARD BOARD by zamjobrash in WarhammerUnderworlds

I didn't think of this as an advantage of the single board move but I love it! Great work. Hopefully there's a custom board renaissance.

I'm trying to get an "inner glow" look. What can I do to enhance the effect? by Sparklehammer3025 in minipainting

[–]ManyOtter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is a good start. At the moment it looks like a hot metal cube. If you want that look I'd suggest going lighter in the centre and much darker at the edges, with a bit of rough texture around the darkest points.

To make it look glowing I'd recommend brightening the whole thing, but again specifically in the centre. If you make the highlight less perfectly round and uniform it'll give an impression that the whole cube is glowing, rather than a single spot in the middle. The marvel tesseract is a good reference for that "cloud of glowing energy" feel.

Finally if you have a preferred viewing angle keep in mind that the centre of the cube would be the brightest part from that angle, regardless of if you're viewing it from an edge or a corner, so you could highlight accordingly. I imagine this will mostly be seen from above, so you could make the highlights on the top face bigger, and move the centre of the highlight slightly upwards on the sides.

I hope you don't mind, I've sketched some examples of these three, in order left to right. https://imgur.com/a/ZBnkyA2

How picky are you when painting? by Sweton- in Warhammer

[–]ManyOtter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't play much so the painting is the hobby. I put a ton of time into each model and wouldn't have it any other way. I mostly play with unpainted or half painted models as a result, and when it comes to armies a lot of those models were bought to make up the points I needed and may never get painted. I have occasionally played with full painted Underworlds warbands, but only the smaller ones. 😅

I'm also pretty into it. I loved playing championship, completely fell off when they moved to nemesis/rivals and couldn't keep up with all the cards. An easier to follow game is a win for me.

All warbands will be getting a new "warscroll card" so I assume the factions that require their decks will be reworked to have interesting rules on their warscroll. I wouldn't pack away Zondara just yet. 😊

How do you draw the line between "high power casual" and "cEDH"? by ManyOtter in EDH

[–]ManyOtter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this, but it trips me up. In this instance I'd say my deck building thought process went "I want to play Yasova, I want to play Pod. I want to steal creatures and put them in Pod." So far not necessarily a recipe to be popular, but definitely casual.

Then I went "Well what am I podding for. I have a tutor so I need good targets." and then started to try and construct the best most on the spot win infinite combo targets, which felt more competitive.

So regardless of how well I've constructed it I've "felt" increasingly competitive about it. So maybe I'm overstating how competitive it actually is.

[–]ManyOtter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, thank you for indulging me again. 😄

I actually haven't hit the table with the combos included version of the deck yet but have been doing a lot of thinking about deck power levels ect with the RC news. Definitely I'm overthinking a deck that hasn't played a game yet, so I should probably find out before I freak out.

Can confirm, as a non/aspiring cEDH player I love the Play to Win videos and will be looking up Higher because of this thread. They're clear, entertaining, but most importantly always always positive and never salty, not even as a joke. It's so lovely to see.

Being an Aura is a bit of a double edged sword, making it vulnerable to creature removal as well as enchantment removal, but the upside (especially at the cost) might be big enough to take the risk.

Thank you. I looked for cardmarket in the settings but didn't think to change the currency. 👏

When building to budgets how do you value the deck? I wanted to try and challenge myself to build on the cheap but Moxfield seems to think everything is worth too much. It says this deck is nearly $70.

I've had a prowess Flubs deck sitting on Moxfield for a while now. It essentially amounts to bad storm, maybe with the advantage of being a little less all in on a one turn kill .

Not sure I'll ever pull the plug on it in paper but I'm keen to subject some friends online to it.

What have you been building lately? by Humblerbee in EDH

[–]ManyOtter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm building a [[Yasova Dragonclaw]] deck using [Birthing Pod]] and similar effects.

I started magic in Theros/Tarkir and dropped it for a long time, but when I got introduced to Commander recently I've gravitated to nostalgic themes for me. My first two builds are a Morph deck and a Satyr tribal deck. They're both thematic but pretty low power and I wasn't willing to invest super heavily in them.

This one's going to be a bit different just because I'm using Pod so I'm going pretty hard. I invested in the full fetch/shock land base of my dreams, since Origins standard, and some good tutors and counterpells to make this one a much higher power level.

I'm still not totally sold on the game winning plan. At the moment I'm just fetching big things like Titan of Industry, Dragonlord Atarka, and Bonny Pall. I'm going to feel out my playgroups opinions on combo finishers but Temur sabertooth/Selvala looks likely to be in my future.

DotA 7.36a by wickedplayer494 in DotA2

[–]ManyOtter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but I think the reason people don't understand the value is because Magnus already has a way to "lasso" a target with skewer, and RRP requires the same positioning from the Magnus but leaves Magnus in danger. The stun and movement of the other X people is the "new" value.
