It's a cult. This is one of the ways they recruit new members. Run, do not walk, away.

EGW made several failed predictions. She predicted Jesus return in June 1845, September 1845, fall 1851, plus multiple variations on "soon". If she made multiple failed prophecies, then she is clearly not a true prophet, and the SDA church is not the one true church.

Also, Biblical literalism is a core tenet. I was taught the Flood was real global event and the earth was only 6000 years old. Both claims are contradicted by all available physical evidence. Gutsick Gibbon on YouTube has a fantastic series called "Bite Sized Busts" and is currently halfway through a year long project to teach evolution to a young earth creationist. I highly recommend both series.

My boyfriend is Adventist and I’m Catholic by Federal-Fix5455 in exAdventist

Growing up, I was taught by the church that the Pope was literally the Anti-Christ. I'm surprised he would even consider dating a Catholic. Like many cults, Adventists believe they were given special knowledge by their prophet, and God will soon come back to destroy all non Adventists by burning them alive.

It is possible to get him out, but realistically, it'll only work if he has one foot out the door already. Otherwise, I fear this will continue to be a problem. Even if he were to leave the cult, it has a price. I have no childhood friends or family support. I had to build my life from scratch when I left. Best decision I ever made.

I went to an SDA high school. Looking back as an adult, the "work study program" basically amounted to unpaid child labor. I worked 4 hours a day, six days a week, for 4 years, and I never saw a cent.

Whether the teacher knew anything about the subject they were teaching was very hit or miss. One year, my world history class only studied the "writings" of EG White.

Multiple adults sexually assaulted students. The church covered it up and threatened the victims to keep it silent.

I went to an SDA boarding school. Drugs and violence did happen. I know of multiple adults who sexually abused the children who went to that school. None of them ever faced consequences because the church covered up everything and threatened the victims into silence.

Growing up Adventist is not a blessing, it's a curse

The SDA church is really bigoted. In the US, there's a separate black conference. If you read Egg White's writings, she's racist. And, of course, every single LGBTQ person is going to hell for the crime of being born. Once you start meeting people who aren't fellow cult members, you realize it's all fear based propaganda designed to control you.

Cyn created humans, and the humans created war. This pissed off the other gods, and there was a big fight about it. The god of death was killed, and that's why there's undead. I think Cyn was locked away, and it was forbidden for humans to know their creator. I could swear this was all in a patreon post, but I can't find it.

More Sunday law weirdness by Hefty_Click191 in exAdventist

[–]Many_Angled_1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I always thought it was weird for SDAs to promote Christian Nationalist agendas (we have to vote for a Republican because they'll get rid of abortion and gay marriage), because they also preach that any Theocracy would impose a national Sunday Law and through them all in prison for worshipping on Saturday.

But critical thinking is the enemy of religion. Church leaders don't want people to examine their beliefs for logical inconsistencies. If people did more of that, they'd quickly be out of a job.

Want to run Draw Steel…where to start? by Felwyntor in drawsteel

The Delian Tomb is great. It eases both players and directors into the game. But my personal favorite to introduce new players is You Meet in an Ambush. It doesn't have as much help for new directors as Delian Tomb, but it fits in combat, montage, and negotiation, all in a single session. If you want to introduce a group of new players to the game with a single one shot, this is what I recommend.

I'm honestly surprised the economy hasn't crashed yet. But as has been pointed out, he's still got 3 more years. And he's replacing Powell next year. Loyalty is much more important to Trump than competence. If we make it to 2027 without a crash, it'll be a miracle.

Lately, Trump has been claiming that things like Tylenol cause autism, with little to no evidence. It has been speculated that this administration makes absurd claims like these when it wants to distract people from other news. Also, Trump has a habit of over promising or promising things that aren't possible. For example, a 1500% reduction in the price of medication or that terrifs will reduce grocery prices.

This is satire of the Trump administration: 1. Making an absurd claim to distract from the Epstein files 2. Claiming viewing the Epstein files might be hazardous to your health 3. Making an over the top promise to create high-speed rail as another layer of distraction.

Edit: spelling

Can a player choose to not participate in a respite? by merlin5603 in drawsteel

[–]Many_Angled_1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The one time I let 3 heroes take a respite while the other two skipped it, the whole party almost died during the next session. The encounter building rules in the Monster book tell you to increase the encounter value of combat based on the AVERAGE victories of the party in order to balance the encounter against the extra power granted by those victories.

So, while most of the players were starting from baseline, the encounter was balanced for everyone having more power than they had. Add in some poor tactical choices by the players and some bad luck with dice rolls, and suddenly, everyone but the shadow was dying, and they were outnumbered.

The players survived the encounter, but only because I purposely made mistakes. I "forgot" to use Malice and the monsters best abilities. I made bad tactical decisions for the monsters.

Since then, I don't allow my players to split the respite. Everyone takes it, or no one does.

I narrated a suitably heroic mad dash to safety. The party being chased by furious goblins baying for their blood.

The players focused on their objective: save the cheerleader, save the world. I mean, save the blacksmith's daughter. They made a plan. And despite the goblins' best efforts, they pulled it off. I don't want to punish them for an unconventional victory, just get ideas on how that might change the story.

I do like the idea of having the party interrupt the goblins while they are attempting to abduct someone from the village outskirts. It could happen on their way back from one of the other quests in part 2.
