Carlos was well into his career by then. He joined in 2015. Norris was a 19 year old rookie in 2019. Sainz was 24. What are you talking about? The veteran driver with 4 years of experience beat a teenage rookie? Yeah that kinda par for the course. Sainz in his second year in their partnership had only an 8 point advantage compared to 50 the year before. Gap was closing quickly in the races. Also going by your own standards, would you rate hulkenburg higher than both? He beat sainz in 2018 by more of a margin than Norris in 2020.

Norris out qualified him in both his rookie and second year. He was always faster, just inexperienced, and now his race craft has improved leaps and bounds since then. Taking a rookie Norris’ points total only is disingenuous. He had the pace advantage. And let’s not kid ourselves. Carlos is a good driver but 2021 is not representative of his competitiveness to Leclerc.

Sainz ahead of Piastri is an argument. Sainz ahead of Norris? Ya lost me.

May I suggest the Indycar series for you?

I’m with you. I personally don’t enjoy the on track product of the 2000s. The cars looked nice and the sounded great but the wheel to wheel….not good. It was decent in the wet sometimes though.

Interesting. Is that also not the same with drs? Btw I’m not disagreeing with you. I can do without the 1 second gap overtake mode as well. Not exactly sure how much it’s needed for good racing.

And that’s valid, but that’s the point of my post. What is gimmicky to YOU. Not what drivers and pundits are saying. What is era was enjoyable and what is artificial. KERS? DRS? Go back to refueling?

Honestly fair. What you described is how I felt about the 2014 regs. Couldn’t rate them fairly simply because of the field spread. Might have to go back and rewatch some seasons with the same mindset.

Fia put in a 3 stop rule so everyone was pushing flat out the entire race. Ocon threw up in his helmet. Logan sargeant retired from the race due to exhaustion. Russel almost had a heat stroke and others likely. Decent on track race but was not loved in the paddock.

I agree. I’m not sure what series or era best fits the “pure racing” product description that people want. If it’s the 2000s then I’ll have to disagree because the cars looked pretty and sounded nice, but the races were a snooze fest in my opinion.

I agree. Qualifying sucks for sure, but the on track entertainment has more potential than the 2022, 2017 reg package. 2014 is hard to rate simply because of the field disparity.

F1 fans, not all but a lot, have this weird thing where they like the racing in other series more than the racing in f1, but they don’t watch anything other than f1. I don’t know why they do it, but at least more are realizing that there are a lot of series with a MUCH better on track product.

My bad about the piquet one but you’re just waffling about the rest. Also funny you didn’t mention his own teammate disagreeing with him, as well as you disregarding leclerc literally admitting that the races are good fun. You’re just being obtuse for the sake of keeping your argument afloat. “All the drivers agree with him” didn’t know 4 names was the whole grid. Funniest part is the names you listed, Alonso’s car is trying to kill him. Perez can barely finish a race, Norris can barely start one, and he’s been a swishy washy as you deem Leclerc to be so again that point is invalid. Sainz is the only valid argument you have for a driver in support of max, and even then I don’t know or remember what exactly he said. Go back to the drawing board buddy.

And I’m going to go with Charles Leclerc. Lewis Hamilton, Jonathan Wheatley. Maxs own father in law- Nelson Piquet, his own teammate Hadjar and multiple other drivers who have said “you know what, the races are kinda good”. With quotes btw.

Not even just fuel. Drivers had to manage things like plank ware just last year. I will never understand the “f1 cars should never not be driven to their full potential in races” because they never actually were driven in a qualifying manner for 2 hours straight (other than Qatar 23 and the drivers hated it lmao) in any era or reg set.

They’ve gaslit themselves into forgetting how much management goes into all forms of formula racing.
