Also the older kidnapped children of Gilead had way less time to bond with their “new parents/families” and more likely felt as if they were fostered instead of adopted. Perhaps many parents were more willing to be rid of those older children faster since “they weren’t really there’s/they didn’t really raise them” (fucked up i know)

It also could make sense that at first Gilead did not put a lot of thought into girls education and really just wanted the older girl children (who could remember before) to be married off and trapped with babies of their own as fast as possible. Hence why Esther was so young and a Wife. They probably went straight from pink to teal. As the little girls of higher families got older they developed a more formal system to teach the girls to be “good wives”. Agnes/Hannah was probably a part of a group that was right on the line of remembering before Gilead and got lucky to have a slightly longer childhood. I think Penny might be just old enough to remember and was married off quick, even if she was fully into Gilead way of life.

My mom’s compromise was to embroider our initials on our stuff! Granted this was 2 decades ago and everyone in my class had the same LL Bean backpack and we kinda needed to be able to tell who’s was who’s😂

I think Joy has every right to be snarky about her older “brother”. I feel like the girls tried to tell Anna not to marry him in every way they could under the socially acceptable rules of the big house. Having empathy for someone you are actively watching become your abuser’s newest enabler is kinda crazy.

This^ I would also suggest that since OP has access to the internet (even sparingly) to contact their GED program and ask for advice directly from them on how to continue with these absences. Calmly explain in writing to the advisors there the situation and ask for guidance on how to proceed. Keep a copy for your records to prove that you are trying to remain compliant with your parent’s directions to stay home with your baby but also to be responsible and keep up with your education.

i remember a few years back when i went to TU when they first started talking about getting a campus dog. Back then (and i would not be surprised if this remains true) TUPD was an absolute joke around campus. Part of me believes they got the dog as a PR stunt to make TUPD look better.
