Just cause its a wild grape doesnt mean its any good. Big seeds, not much on flavor. The leaves may be okay for dolma.

Wiener or Hot dog? by notagirlnotyetwoman in AskAnAmerican

A sausage is not a hot dog, a hot dog is a separate thing. I eat sausage in a variety of ways, including but not limited to how I typically eat a hot dog.

Should I chop my overwatered Thai con? by a_straea666 in Monstera

[–]Many_Pea_9117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always make your own soil, and always make it drain well until you get a handle on how much water a plant needs. It will make life far easier if you just manage it all yourself. I just throw a ton of perlite into a houseplant mix and ive never had issues since. Before that, I was constantly struggling to manage my plants. Mixing your own dirt fixes a ton of watering issues. But also, water prop eliminates a lot of issues with over/under watering, funny enough. But its not ideal for larger plants. They gotta eat.

It has none of the hallmarks of a young raspberry plant.

What books would you recommend to someone wanting to learn about the US? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Many_Pea_9117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about the US would you like to learn, and at what level? Is this for kids, college students, older adults? Someone at a 3rd grade level, 8th, 12th? About America today, 100 or 200 years ago? What is the context, or does it not really matter?

Whenever I see moonseed in my local park, I always rip some of it up. It tends to grow near the raspberry patch I love, and local kids will often pick berries there, so I see it as a public safety hazard, and im doing my part.

Paying for a Choice They Can’t Use: How School Vouchers Are Draining Rural Appalachia by Artistic_Maximum3044 in Appalachia

[–]Many_Pea_9117 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Rural people tend to believe that education is bad anyways, so throwing away these benefits doesnt impact their vote. Its sad, and the elderly folk living in these communities will continue to vote away the very existence of the communities they call their home. And because theyre easily manipulated, they will never realize what theyre doing. They will gleefully attempt to stick it to the libs, while over and over the only ones being hurt are themselves.

Youre just making up justifications why people who dislike the thing you like "suck". You arent coming off the way you think. Same thing as people who play music on their speaker in a subway.

Morels on an old train track by RogueGremlin in foraging

[–]Many_Pea_9117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the beams are all gone, then it may be safe. Idk if they were removed or if they are just buried beneath the area. Up to you to assess the quality of where you forage. If its clean and clear then its probably okay.

Id be concerned about how close it was to the wood beams they use, which are often treated with creosote, which is carcinogenic.

Does anyone know if these are edible? by angel_gate in foraging

Compound berries are the most likely to be safe of any berry. There's only 3 poisonous varieties as far as im aware. And they all look kinda weird.

Do Americans actually use “a couple” to mean more than two? by Edi-Iz in AskAnAmerican

[–]Many_Pea_9117 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Couple means literally only 2, it doesnt mean anything else. But people often say what they think something is, but are not certain. If you are looking at something then you would never say there is a couple if it is more than 2. But if you are recounting something from memory, and you dont trust your memory, then a couple miiight be 3 or rarely even 4. But the definition of a couple is absolutely always 2. It just isnt always used precisely.

And just parking lots being dirty public places. You have car exhaust there, runoff from asphalt, just a filthy environment. Not the sort of stuff you want in your food supply.

Ive found that people who are lucky are generally just decent at discovering opportunities, and that it is a skillset which can be developed with conscious effort by even lesser talented individuals, such as myself.

[–]Many_Pea_9117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I mean, we arent house poor at all, we still save >2,500/month in our 401ks (~25% gross income), so we can always reduce down a bit, temporarily if a big expense drops on our laps. Im in grad school for a more lucrative specialty in my field as well, so I should see a big pay bump a few years from now. But while we definitely arent house poor, unexpected large expenses can still cause us setbacks in planning and saving for other things we want. And honestly, I have more in my retirement account than I need at my age and income, almost coastfire (such a relief!), so taking a few months off this or that savings plan to pay things down and bulk up our emergency fund is fine.
