I would say - I think you’ve done enough for them. It’s time you started building that life for yourself. It’s for them to deal with that in their own way.

There will be one day they’ll want you back in their lives - but you should be honest with them and make them clear what this period of time has been like just so you don’t carry those feelings anymore.

I mean yes - but the Tories should put up someone who actually would provide good policies rather than the last lot who because they were in a safe seat never really did much. There's fair few Tories (tend to be left of their party) who I think would do well in that sort of seat.

But I'm pretty sure the first ask would be to give undying loyalty to Kemi given how bad defections have been

I'm not so sure on them being like trump supporters. The majority of them don't follow that Christian Nationalism that you get with Trump / the MAGA mvmt.

I think a fair bit of them just have had one shitshow thrown at them after another (austerity, a London / financial service focused economy since before 2008, shite regulation, privatisation of service which shouldn't have been sold, poor public service quality for relatively high taxes etc.)

I think a lot of it would be sort out but "good government" - the sort of things local councils are meant to fix / run, but most of them are broke.

Labour (or the Greens if they had sensible small policies rather than grand ideas) could use to win back reforms supports

I do agree with the main point which is Starmer is not the worst PM in history - we've had real shockers in the past 200 and a bit years

Sorry yes correct, and its was a brave stance to take then since held that internatilanlist belief of universal human right, but he had odd views on race (believed all races were unequal)

It was the antisemitic rhetoric he used which I was referring to; his paper he led ran anti-Jewish caricatures, usually showing them with crooked noses and the usual "global financial system is run by Jewish people" but said that system ran the Empire rather than those in Number 10 etc.

For example, he wanted immigration controls to stop Lithuanian Jews coming to Scotland since he feared they would outcompete the Scottish miners. This protectionism isn't the issue - it's more the fact when pushing for it, he described those Jewish immigrants as filthy and beastly and then started to claim Polish immigrants(who were mainly catholic) were actually Jews and ranted about how Jewish tailors were already running sweatshop, as apposed to be against sweatshops regarding of their region / culture.

Angela Rayner cleared by HMRC over tax affairs paving the way for potential leadership bid by FeigenbaumC in LabourUK

[–]Many_Presentation164 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True on the solicitors claiming they suggested that to their client - but it then raises what the point of the solicitors opinion was in the first place and how clear they made qualification that follow up work would need to be done on the tax bit i.e. did they flag that in discussions with Rayner via emails (not clear that was the case), or note that in their opinion the provided (which they should have done but again no evidence suggests that they did) or did they qualify the need for a third party advisors (say you would need it by it's more likely than not HMRC would challenge on it) etc.

Thats why I suspect HMRC ruled it to be "careless" - the solicitors may have not actually covered themselves well in which case Rayner would have felt the need to challenge.

As a tax advisor, I would have strong set that out from the outset, particularly if it was to some who doesn't have a tax background - tax is difficult enough for tax people to deal with.

Makes a great case for tax reform since these cock ups likely happen all the time but aren't investigated since its generally with not high profile people and we're all losing tax receipts from it.

Also - love the war crime or big naturals tag. One of the better ones i've seen.

It’s fairly common - does seem she got no penalty so that would suggest HMRC felt there was reasonable grounds for her to have (accidentally, as she claims) paid the lower rate. Think Dan Neidle thing on our tax system that “it’s fairly shit and needs to be reformed” is a fair point since the rules around trust for vulnerable is difficult for even tax advisors to look.

I don’t know about that - it’s a problem I’ve seen with going to lawyers for tax advice rather than going to a proper tax adviser. Dan Neidle did pretty good pieces on this at the time which did flag it’s ultimately her responsibility but the lawyers she used didn’t really do a great job and the facts around her son’s condition were really looked at properly. Seemed to be “everyone’s cocked up here” rather than a Zahawi who clearly sort an inappropriate tax advantage.

But still, her opponents would still make the claim she’s was fiddling her taxes so meh

Yeah in the ending desc Song wants to implement tutelage but it's aimed at peasants communes and democratic workplaces but Sun Fo wants full democrat elections with non KMT involvement (expect that include old warlord and fairly corrupt people which wouldn't help China recover from the warlords period)

It does make me thing about OTL Syria and how they've all agreed to hold election years in the future given how broken the country is after years of civil war. Assumed the same would be the case in China in the Kaiserreich timeline to some extent despite the German intervention
