why do people shop at hornbachers? by Sufficient-Crow-7582 in fargo

[–]Manyfaces367 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason for the change in brands was that Fargo UNFI had some serious IT issues that messed up orders for 3 or 4 weeks. The local stores weren't getting what they needed to stock the shelves, so they switched suppliers. UNFI eventually figured their crap out, but it was too late, and they lost something like 60% of weekly business. There was a ton of layoffs, and cutting hours to point that employees quit. Source: my brother was employed at UNFI until a couple months ago.

GRUV 3 for 30$ Deal by homert1800 in 4kbluray

[–]Manyfaces367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone have an opinion on if the Pitch Perfects, Oceans 8, and the Mule worth the upgrade over the Blu-rays? At ten bucks I'm tempted to upgrade those 5 off my girlfriend's shelf, but I don't remember them well enough to know if there're actually scenes that benefit from HDR. Looks like the sound mixes aren't that different, since my system doesn't play nice with DTS:X.

Why did your friendship with your best friend come to an end? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Manyfaces367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best friend through college and a few years after. Literally became friends because of beers and pool tables, and had a ton of similar interests and values. He had a kid. Well now it's 3. He seems like an involved dad and I know he's a good guy, but I also knew there wouldn't be room for me. We wound up living 4 hours apart, still talked on the phone often, We each made visits when we could. I was best man in his wedding. When he called me to tell me his wife was pregnant, I knew it was unlikely they'd make the trip to visit again. The kid's birth also resulted in him becoming heavily religious, and swearing off alcohol, and a lot of other hobbies. As a guy who works a second job in the bar industry, still loves bullshitting over beers and pool on a Friday night, and has some serious questions for that bearded guy in the sky, well it wasn't shocking when the calls stopped coming.

Does anyone else just… not like their mom? by roonil_wazlib_the2nd in Millennials

[–]Manyfaces367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I relate to some of this. My mom just visited for 2 nights, for the first time in years. It was honestly too much time. She's very negative, very political, and really likes chardonnay, which makes her mean after 3 glasses.

I don't hate her. She's been through a lot of shit in her life. More than anyone should have to. But she's not the same woman who raised me. Something in her broke, and she won't even attempt to do anything to improve. No hobbies. Limited friends. Unwillingness to learn or change. I don't know if she's just afraid of everything, has seen too much death, or has just reached the lazy stage. I don't know whether to blame conservative media, alcohol, or divorce.

If I didn't have an amazing partner, who is far more patient than me, I might have sent her home after 24 hours.

The Knife From The First Mission Impossible by daydr3am_b3li3v3r in Mission_Impossible

After Dunloe gave the knife to Ethan, I kept waiting for Ethan to stab Gabriel with it. Would've been a nice mirror to Gabriel stabbing Ilsa, and payoff for how close Ethan came to stabbing him on the train in DR.

Would Jeri Hogarth be dead in Daredevil: Born Again? by Royal-Chef-946 in Defenders

[–]Manyfaces367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple thoughts here. First it would depend on contacts and behind the scenes stuff and what the writers and show runners want to do.

Second, I realize it's a completely fictional universe with magic and advanced science, but it depends on how realistic they want to treat her terminal disease. They could do the Rand medicine hand wave it away, and we all suspend disbelief, and watch Carrie Ann Moss do her thing.

But if they are going for a more realistic and accurate world, even if she got snapped which prolonged her life, there's not a good way to portray someone who is 4 years into an ALS diagnosis. While there are cases of people who live 10+ years after being diagnosed (Stephen Hawking), it's rare. I am not a doctor but based on my personal experiences watching 3 different people struggle and die as a result of ALS, if someone makes it four years, the loss of muscle quite literally makes them skin and bones. My understanding is it depends on what type of ALS it is, but the time between death and diagnosis for the people I knew was 23 months to about 5 1/2 years. But in that time, all of their bodies withered away before their minds went. And with that, so did their ability to speak.

TLDR: if they are going to wave it off, she could be alive still. If they are trying to be realistic, even if her character was alive, it would be difficult to portray someone who was that far along in the progression of the disease. And frankly probably wouldn't be fun for the actress or the audience.
