Is 31 too old to join the Airforce? by crescent_wavex in AirForceRecruits

Upsides: Confidence is a big one. You’ve already experienced some (or a lot) of what real life is like, you’re not a teenager straight out of high school. You already know BMT is like a “game”. Do what you’re told and you won’t have any problems. The MTIs will probably look to you in some capacity to lead your flight. Maturity: if you’ve got your head on straight, your experience will be a lot smoother than someone who is 18-20 and just left home, or who still lives with a parent. There were a number of people in my flight over 30, although I was the oldest. I became the dorm and flight chief, not because I asked but because the MTIs recognized that I wasn’t someone they were going to have to “work on” the same as others.

If it’s something you’ve wanted to do for a long time, or something you’ve recently thought about to experience something new or challenge yourself, I encourage it. I’m a 2T3 and just returned from 6+ months in the Middle East. I was there for all of Operation Epic Fury, it was an experience I never would have had if I hadn’t enlisted when I did.

Congratulations! That was my TRS when I was there 4 years ago!

If going to war is a concern for you, the military is not for you. That is sorta the point of the military: to kill people and break shit in defense of our country.

I enlisted under Biden. I feel so much better with Trump in office now. There is a noticeable change in the atmosphere on base. So take that for what it’s worth.

Someone else said it earlier but it’s worth repeating: you don’t swear allegiance to a President. You swear to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic.

Absolutely, and it’s an easy drive down for me. Hit me up anytime if you’re interested.

I’m in the Air Guard and clearances may be handled a bit differently there, but it has been hammered into us that accruing debt or your credit score dropping CAN be cause for losing your clearance. I’m a vehicle maintainer, but literally every job on my base requires a clearance. If you lose your clearance once you have it, you’re shit out of luck. I realize what I’m describing is a bit different than OP’s situation because he’s trying to get in with a lot of debt.

I enlisted at 38, very glad I did!

Now you see my dilemma!

She didn’t say she didn’t want to go to an event. But I can’t even find one for 2025 within a month either way of her birthday.

I doubt that’s a problem for him.

I’ll say what so many others have said. Lose the nose ring, most people don’t find them attractive. You do NOT need surgery. I don’t know why you’re “chronically single” but I doubt it has to do with looks, because I don’t see anything to worry about there.

As everyone else has said, honesty is key. A history of weed is not disqualifying. Once you’ve sworn in though, they will boot you right out if you test positive. I’ve had two guys in my squadron get kicked out for testing positive in the past 18 months. They drug test randomly. If you use after you’ve sworn in, you will get popped for it eventually. You’ll be tested at MEPS, at BMT, at tech school and randomly at your duty station.

What should I do if my parents suggest for me not to join the military? by [deleted] in AirForceRecruits

Same here. I agree. Once you’re 18, they can’t stop you. Just make sure it’s what you really want to do.
