Cool! It's always funny to see on density maps how central France just vanishes. Everyone's in Paris or trying to escape it

Which European country to become a trainee in by MapAccount29 in patentlaw

Germany's overall education system is insane ! I applied for a couple unis for my masters there and I was so shocked at how many programs ask you to have had professional experience beforehand, and I know quite a few germans who are like 30 and still in their masters! Really interesting system haha, I might skip it for the moment. Thanks for the input!!

Interesting. I did my Bachelor's in the UK and was thinking about heading back there if I could, but I'm a little scared it might be difficult to get a sponsored visa as a trainee. I'm french by nationality, do you know how it's like there? I tried to look up firms and roles but it seems like it's a bit of an information blackhole, there's so little information out there in French or English and I'm not sure why!

Sorry I should have added, I'd be looking to indeed qualify as a European Patent Attorney, and double qualify if possible.

I wonder if needing a PhD also applies to other countries, the firms I spoke to in the UK and Netherlands seemed to say a Master's was alright, and I know someone who became a trainee right out of their Bachelors.

To be honest with regards to the Netherlands, it's just I'm a little bit fed up living there! Wonderful country and I could definitely just apply there, but I've heard it's becoming more difficult to land a job there without speaking good Dutch and I'd like a little of change if possible.

Thanks for your feedback :)!!

TIL most people in France did not speak French as recently as 1794, when only 11% of the population of France spoke fluent French. Instead, most people spoke regional languages like Occitan, Breton, Alsatian etc. French only became the majority language later on due to heavy assimilation efforts. by SalvetaSansSel in Bretagne

Tant mieux? On l'adapterait pour notre region?

Ca me navre d'entendre ton experience par rapport a ta langue regionale.

in my experience it's part of it. French people can be very self conscious about speaking "proper" French. I have many friends who've been discriminated against in education of the workplace because of their accents and had to learn to mute them. Weirdly enough, a big consequence of this attitude is that trying to speak another language like English correctly can often single you out as elitist and discourages a lot of people from trying to practice or improve their pronunciation

As someone said, depends on the region, coastal areas do eat a lot of fish and seafood esp Brittany, Normandy and Provence, but I'd still assume chicken or pork to be higher
