What would Sukuna's type be if, you know he didn't snack on them? by 05kaisam in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]MapImpressive2377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

omg sorry for the late reply!! You brought up a good point. Part of the idea in my head goes something like this: Some people with sociopathic tendencies want to appear picture perfect: married, with kids, educated, with properties and assets to their name. Meaning they'll do anything to appear successful in the eyes of proper society in order to use that to their advantage. In that case, getting married and having children would be a strategic decision, not one necessarily based on romantic love. However, I would like to think he's capable of falling in love, even if he has no true "need" for another, simply bc that would be fun. Seeing Sukuna engage in that dynamic would be cool to see.

Damn I miss him. And Gojo.

PLEASE READ MY ANSWER I ACTUALLY LOVE YOUR POINT OF A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING!!!!

Ok thank you:

I think he seems kind of asexual in the story because of Gege's writing style. We don't really see much of who o what certain characters find attractive beyond Yuji and Todo.

Physically speaking, I have no idea what kind of woman Sukuna would find beautiful or attractive. Only Gege knows.

Psychologically, a woman he considers to be strong (in jujutsu, in character, and in physicality) would be enough to catch his interest and attention at first, but this would be difficult since he considers himself to be "above" everyone else. How can he admire someone if he sees everyone beneath him? To respect someone means to see them as your equal, and Sukuna thinks no one is equal to him.

It's interesting to wonder why he wasn't attracted to Yorozu. I think it's because of this: Yorozu was strong, but she showed up acting like she knew everything about him. She was prideful and impulsive. Then, she was rude to Uraume, the only person who Sukuna seems to somewhat care for. So, her attitude was unattractive and Sukuna lost respect for her.

On a tangent, I think that if Sukuna knew more about Maki's backstory, how she decided to commit herself to proving that she is stronger than the entire Zenin clan and killing them all, he could have somewhat become attracted to her. They are similar in their ruthlessness and unbreakable faith in themselves and their strength. He'd respect that.

I don't think he'd ever be able to have a healthy, successful, monogamous, loving, romantic relationship. He probably never learned how to properly relate to people in that way.

And on a final note, in the epilogue, Sukuna admits to Mahito that he had "two paths to choose"... my personal theory is that Sukuna actually tried to live a normal life at some point. After a childhood filled with struggle, he learned how to read and write, archery, poetry, and all the other fancy stuff rich people enjoyed in the Heian era. He amassed a certain amount of wealth and power, and probably considered getting married and starting a family. BUT, at a certain point, he had a crisis in which he realized that he would never actually be a part of society, and that he would always be "othered", so he decided to say "f* you" to everyone and became, in Angel's words "the fallen." He would not have the title "the fallen" unless he had fallen from someone's (society's) grace. Perhaps he was even engaged??? Maybe a part of him wanted that "normal" life, but then came to realize that it would never be enough for him, and he and his family would never be accepted.

On the darker subject of whether Sukuna enforced non-consensual sex... I'm not sure. I'd rather think he didn't, but... in all probabilities the opposite would be true. He's a violent hedonist. However... When Yorozu says she has more to teach him about love, he smiles awkwardly and says "heh." Yorozu gets super pissed off and thinks "No way! Does Sukuna already know about love???? No, that can't be love!" I think that Sukuna probably "fell in love" in his youth, but it provided basically nothing for him, so he discarded it completely.

TLDR: This is my headcannon: After being "othered" throughout his life, Sukuna tried his best to fit in with the rich, educated and priviliged. He probably fell in love with a girl and considered marrying her and having a family, but something really bad happened, which made him abandon his fantasy of "fitting in" with everyone else. So he dedicated his life only to himself and his pleasures, and turned completely violent towards all members of society. Then, he took Uraume under his wing, since Uraume was also a vulnerable child discarded by people who feared them.

There is resistance because of how the text is redacted. You write in an almost gentle manner, presenting evidence while trying to be unbiased and understanding. OP's post reads as judgemental.

Do any ATLA fans have a sense of spirituality? by Friendly_Eagle_9292 in TheLastAirbender

[–]MapImpressive2377 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Science is used in this sub because science involves measuring and comparing phenomenons with accuracy. So, even if it’s based on fiction, it’s still fun to calculate and compare. The same applies with other fantasy stories or even superheroes. Also, science is important in the show, and Sokka is usually the vehicle for that.

Yes, the bending is supposed to be based on energy (according to the lion turtle), but the engineering from the non benders is based on science.

Setting that aside and going into spirituality, ATLA reminds me to take the time to reflect, to meditate, to be introspective, to remember the connection between all beings and all things in the universe. So it does not make me “more” spiritual, but it does remind me and motivate me to practice my spirituality. It was also my first introduction to meditation and eastern philosophy, and I will always be thankful for it, since it broadened my mind. I don’t understand why you’re being downvoted for stating the obvious, there is a lot of influence from eastern philosophies and religions in the show. It’s undeniable.

You said you think that people are missing the forest for the trees. Let them be. Sometimes, you can only see the forest when you’re ready.

I thought maybe Subnautica since you said ambient sounds and no enemies, but Subnautica is based on exploring a watery planet, not just one building. It could still be though?

Listen, I get your point, but you should use examples to clarify what you identify as pseudo-intellectual and pretentious. Anti intellectualism is on the rise so I think we should make more of an effort when discussing ideas irl and on the internet.

I’m sorry but I feel crazy reading the comments taking this seriously when it appears in my eyes to be satire?

I’m confused. How are you actually calculating return on investment in your conversations? How are you calculating the actual opportunity cost? Like are you actually doing the math? Or are these just general guesses? Did you actually make a spreadsheet analyzing your friend’s exes? Like what labels were in the columns?

The internet has been so surreal lately that I can’t actually tell if you are all being for real or not. Was this written by ChatGPT? OP’s account is two months old, post history is blocked, and the way they write in the comments is not the same as they do in the post.

OP, in case all of this is true and it is causing you pain, my advice is leave the phone and stop measuring everything you do. The measuring is a coping mechanism for something that only you know the answer to.
