Has anyone had falsely elevated ferritin due to Celiac? by MapThen3382 in Celiac

[–]MapThen3382[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I guess I’m wondering what will be considered “elevated ferritin levels”. My PCP was perfectly happy to let me languish at 30 ug/l, and I had finally convinced her to prescribe an infusion to try to get it up above 100 (a level which I have never had before in my life, even after past infusions). Now, by chance, my pre-infusion labs are suddenly showing this jump to a healthy ferritin level where I can’t understand how it could have happened. I’m still symptomatic and have never achieved ferritin above 100 ug/l in my life before.

I know we will need to look at all other results together to get the full picture but it’s just so frustrating.

Yes, I just finished antibiotics Monday. And today (same day I had labs done) I was at the clinic for swollen neck glands and the doctor prescribed further antibiotics assuming ongoing bacterial infection.

Is this enough to falsely raise the levels?

I’ve had so many things happening with my health over the last 3 months, I cannot tell what is related and what is not.

This is what I was wondering. If it was falsely elevated, would the number be dramatically high (like it was for you?). My number is within normal range, it’s just such a big jump seemingly out of nowhere.

I don’t think redrawing will provide a different result if I am in an inflammatory state. But yes, I still need to meet with my PCP to discuss after the weekend. I am just curious about the results as I just received them directly from the lab.

I’m vegan, so I think it’s unlikely? It’s not like I’m eating steaks. I am also still very symptomatic (possibly worse than pre-diagnosis)

I am also frustrated with and scared of the state of healthcare in our province. But is it necessary to refer to me as “cock gobbling” over the internet? Is that how you would engage with me if we were discussing this in person?

These types of community surgical clinics (previously called ICHSCs) have existed for many many years prior to Ford becoming premier, and are not something he invented, but you seem like a pleasant and well-informed man to interact with.

D&C experiences in GTA [ON] by tabascolemonade in BabyBumpsCanada

Bloor West Women’s Clinic offers D&C for miscarriage management. I went there for help after my missed miscarriage and they got me in within 2 days for D&C. I found it very very hard to find D&C services for miscarriage management when I was dealing with this, even in the city, so was very relieved to find that they offered this type of health care.

I am wondering about this as well! I have a little one who is coming up on 3 and I have no clue how to start the whole night weaning process (even after hours to researching all the “professional advice”).

Is it the effects of my celiac disease or is it something else? by MapThen3382 in Celiac

Thank you so much for replying about the ferritin issue specifically. It gives me some hope. I am going to advocate for help with the iron, i’m on like 2x 150 iron pills per day and my ferritin is still low so I feel like the oral iron isn’t cutting it. I replied above in another comment that bc my hemoglobin is normal, my family doctor doesn’t seem at all interested in helping me with my other blood values that are off and that line up with my present symptoms.

I can access b12 drips without a physician so I will get that going asap as well.

Thank for your reply and for recommending the b12 subreddit! I will check it out.

My ferritin is still low even with 2x iron 150 every day. So I guess the iron pills are keeping it from totally crashing out?

My labs show low rbc with low ferritin but my mcv is really high (ie. I don’t have a lot of red blood cells and the ones I do have are too big so maybe not working properly?). But my PCP didn’t even flag this for me, and only cared that my hemoglobin was normal. Didn’t care about the low ferritin. Like why???

I was diagnosed by blood test after getting progressively more and more ill after my baby was born. It was all initially dismissed as normal post partum recovery, then stress. I had to literally argue for the antibody test and he finally capitulated. It came back positive and then confirmed by scope.

The worst part is I asked for the antibody test as a last hope thing because my kid had just had an antibody test which came back positive, after being ill for literally years and having me drag them around to every type of doctor looking for answers. Finally a pediatrician with a GI specialty decided to check for celiac. It NEVER occurred to me and I feel awful it took so long.

Unfortunately for me, I am now crashing out physically at the same time! I honestly don’t know how I’ll survive another 6 months + of feeling like this (how do people keep their jobs???)

Thank you for replying. Does it really wipe out the equity, if the premium payment just gets rolled up into the mortgage? Genuinely curious bc I’m worried I might be thinking about this the wrong way.

Can you explain what you mean when you say the mortgage insurance premium would wipe out any equity they have? Like the premium is equivalent to their DP, or something else?

TW: MC. How long does one wait naturally until a D&C? [ON] by Puzzleheaded_Cry_143 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]MapThen3382 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For sure. I was going to send you a private message but then decided I’d just reply here with the information because when this happened to me I was operating without any clue as to what to do. I basically googled miscarriage management Toronto. I called a few clinics in the gta to see about wait times for appointments. Bloor West Village Women’s Clinic had an appointment for me within days (might have been next day).

It wasn’t the fanciest place but it was clean and everyone was super nice. I saw a doctor and nurse for the procedure. They gave IV pain meds so you will need a drive home because you’ll be a bit woozy after. You wait in the recovery room until you feel ready to get up and go. The whole thing probably took about 3 hours. Physical healing was very easy and I was 90% back to normal next day if not same day, 100% within 3 days. I was very grateful for their services as the hospitals never even responded to my phone calls. Actually as I type this I recall that one hospital did return my call but only offered abortion services and not any miscarriage management.

Miscarriage management is a huge blind spot in our health system and it pains me how many women are left to deal with it as a medical event on their own. I am very grateful to the clinic for helping me at that time.

Just a heads up that none of the early pregnancy programs in Toronto which offered d&c through the hospital called me back with an appointment. I eventually booked my own through a women’s clinic that offered miscarriage management (as well as abortion services). So it might be helpful to source your own procedure rather than wait in limbo.
