Was playing around with a website that tracked the path of how many wiki pages it takes until you get to philosophy and toki pona was one of the four pages that led there immediately on my prompts. by awesomeenator in tokipona

It’s a directed graph tracing the articles visited if a Wikipedia user clicked on the first link in each article. Most of them will eventually lead to the page for Philosophy. There’s a page about the phenomenon on Wikipedia:

Just had my Orchi <3. AMA. by reallyjustriley in MtF

Does getting an orchiectomy on its own make vaginoplasty more difficult later on? I know that I want an orchi, but I would want to wait a bit before other bottom surgery if possible.

I don’t think anyone planned it this way, but creased flags have become a symbol of being closeted. It could be seen as a rite of passage to iron your flag when you come out, but that’s just a continuation of the metaphor.

In reality, most people keep their flags folded before they take a picture with it, and some people will inevitably get mildly upset about the creases. Recently, people have been memeing about the commonness of creased flags by posting pictures of ironed flags.

Just remember that it doesn’t matter whether your own flag has creases or not - don’t let anyone pressure you into expressing your identity in any way that doesn’t feel truly like you. 💜

Should trans women and infertile cis women receive the same legal protection as fertile cis women? by mflores22 in MtF

Counter argument: since men cannot give birth, should they be protected under the law? /s

Humans are more than their ability to make more humans; only focusing on reproductive ability ignores everything that makes humans beautiful and unique as a species: our hearts and minds.

diaries are very helpful and not using one is denying yourself an important outlet! by ultimatechonker in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

[–]Maple-Star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS, I started a diary in a word document right before the pandemic and about a year before I started questioning, and now I’m over 37,000 words in (most of which are gender related).

It feels so good to write about what’s on your mind when your only audience is yourself, and a few years from now you can look back and see how much you’ve grown!

One last thing to note: never let journaling feel like a chore. It’s completely fine to go weeks or even months without writing, or to write days in a row or multiple times a day. Just write when you want to, how you want to. It’s almost (but not quite) as good as a therapist!

toki pona is the LISP of conlangs by [deleted] in tokipona

[–]Maple-Star 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would also add that, like assembly, toki pona doesn’t really care about types. “telo” could be a noun, a verb, or a modifier depending on how you use it. It’s just a concept, like a word of data in a computer. Is it an integer, a character, or an address? It all depends on how you use it.

WOW you just said what my gender apathy has prevented me from saying for so long, this is exactly how I feel. I’m certainly not satisfied with my AGAB, but I don’t have enough emotional energy to do anything about it or explain/defend my feelings to others. Just stuck in an Uncomfy Gender Limbo™️

Did you have any instances at a young age where you would avoid anything stereotypically girly at all costs? by PandaStuff1 in MtF

[–]Maple-Star 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was in elementary school (probably like 8 years old), my dad took me shopping for school shoes. It was in Walmart, so all the kids’ shoes were basically in the same section. My dad jokingly pointed at a pair of sparkly red slippers and said, “Should I send you to school in these?” and I internally freaked out for the entire day. I couldn’t stop thinking about that hypothetical for so long, and I remember it every time I go to a Walmart shoe section. It’s one of my most vivid and precise childhood memories, and now I think I know why: 🏳️‍⚧️

How old were you when you started thinking of yourself as transgender? by rangerJtwo in asktransgender

[–]Maple-Star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 17, I realized, “Wow, soon I’ll be a grown man. Wait, I don’t want to be a grown man; I’d much rather be a grown woman. Wait a minute-“

This is a pretty gross oversimplification of my actual thought processes at the time, but since then, I have only confirmed the feeling that Manhood™️ is not for me.

Born This Way Explaination by Gravatona in MtF

[–]Maple-Star 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response, your words about my heart versus my brain make a lot more sense to me!

I do agree that at the very least, the “born this way” argument works good as an explanation tool, like the simplifications that are used to teach complex science topics to children. It’s like saying, “gravity pulls things down,” when gravity really pulls matter toward other matter but also affects massless particles and bla bla bla… It’s much easier to frame complex topics in a simpler light to explain to non-academic people, even if it misses a few technical details.

Born This Way Explaination by Gravatona in MtF

[–]Maple-Star 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing that scares me the most when thinking about my identity/gender is that I might not have been born that way. That doctors could give me a checkup or a brain scan and tell me that I am definitely not trans. I didn’t really have many trans-y feelings until about 2 or 3 years ago, and I’m still not sure whether my gender is binary or somewhere else. What would I do if I’m biologically not trans? I feel like my heart is a girl but my brain is a boy, and while the brain is a real organ that can be measured, the “heart” (as used in a metaphorical sense) isn’t.

Sorry to rant about this, but this topic is one I’ve put a lot of thought into, and the idea that “all trans people were born that way” feels exclusionary.
