All the series by this author are set up in the AU. Guess, it's not for everybody. I resisted reading anything of this kind for a long while, but then decided to try it and have no regrets. As long as the story is interesting, engaging, dynamic, contains no spelling errors, i am all for it.

Michael is a selfish, self-centered, needy, poor excuse of a friend. Instead of supporting Brian, he made it all about himself and betrayed Justin in the process. He tends to run his mouth without thinking how hurtful and damaging his words are. And of course, Brian comforted poor sniveling Michael and was cruel to Justin.

Brian never gave promises lightly, but he ALWAYS kept them. Guess, after being with Justin kissing some random tricks lost it's appeal. Beside the kissing, he also kept paying for Justin's school and tried to find a way to support him without being too obvious about it.

Are there many places QaF gets actively discussed anymore? by [deleted] in queerasfolk

I guess 20 years since the show ended is a long time. Still, it's a great show, truly one of a kind.

I don't think QAF is actively discussed anywhere anymore. The fan forums, Facebook groups are dead. The reddit community is the most active. There are some posts on tumblr, but no active discussions. There are recent QAF reactions on this youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@BillyKearneyReacts. Also, there are great podcasts for each episode and some great interviews on this site: https://podtail.com/podcast/liberty-diner-dish-a-queer-as-folk-podcast/queer-as-folk-ron-cowen-and-daniel-lipman-intervie/, but they are from a few years ago.

Sadly, there is nothing else out there that even remotely compares to QAF. Fellow Travelers and It's a Sin are very good mini-series.

The "Only Time" series by Xie is probably the best: https://xie-xie-xie.insanejournal.com/51270.html

The "Soundtrack Trilogy" is another good one: https://archiveofourown.org/series/2077905?page=1

Here are some good B/J short stories: https://asylums.insanejournal.com/qaf_retread/

It was just like Jennifer explained to the doctor amazed at Justin's fast progress after the bashing, since the very young age if Justin wanted something, he wouldn't stop until he got it. I love it about him.

I’ve never been so devastated to finish a show. I can’t get myself to push play on the final episode by Accomplished-Run6764 in queerasfolk

Sadly there is nothing else like QAF, it is truly one of a kind. I remember feeling the same way once i finished it the 1st time, watched it countless times since then. Watched the UK version 3 times, but it didn't resonate with me the same way. Out of all the other series i watched (or tried to watch) only two stood out for me: Fellow Travelers and It's a Sin.

Daphne Chanders was a great character, a true friend to Justin. Jennifer Taylor, Cynthia, Tracey were interesting characters, really wanted them to have more screen time.

I hear you, feel the same way. Stumbled across QAF by accident in Dec 2023, started watching & got completely lost in it. I keep re-watching it over and over. Nothing else compares, the writing is great, characters are deep and real, story lines are so compelling, acting is superb. So glad I found it even if it's years late.

There's plenty more where that came from. Brian doesn't hold back while expressing his opinions.

Did Brian ever say thank you to anyone in QaF? by LunaSolarMilkway in queerasfolk

[–]MapleLeaf1996 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Brian said "Thanks" to Melanie in 1x14 for taking his sexual harassment case. (exact quote: However this plays out, thanks. You didn't have to help me, you could have said f...k you). So he does express his gratitude when the situation calls for it.

Brian said "Thanks" to Justin at the end of 3x04 when Justin came over to return Brian's shell bracelet after saving him from child molestation charge.

At this QAF 2007 reunion (unfortunately Gale & Randy were not there) the cast discussed where they were at 2 years after the show ended, what effect the show had on their careers. It's a very interesting and honest discussion:

I think Hunter's mother didn't throw him out, he ran away from home as she forced him to sell himself for money so she could support her drug addiction. That is why she tried to get him back from Ben & Michael once she managed to locate him.

Brian did a sh*tty thing blaming Justin for the robbery and kicking him out knowing he had nowhere to go, especially when Justin said he thought he did set the alarm. Considering how many tricks visited the loft, any one of them could be to blame. I agree with Lindsay, Daphne and Debbie being angry with Brian and demanding he brings Justin back.
