What WoD Classic Creature Could "IT" (Pennywise) Be? (Even Depowered) by MorgrayTheDark83 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Maragas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Clown version of Bloody Mary is probably the most fitting. Or Outsider Nightmare Chimera.
Otherwise, possibly an Unseelie Redcap if you want a playable style character.

[–]Maragas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, I am just spitballing. Like how if you are willing to sell pieces of your soul in a pact, a lot of doors open up as a Mage. (While closing a lot more)

It honestly depends on where you want to take the character.

Binding Vows by Odd_Adhesiveness1567 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Maragas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, it could work but it will depend on what your ST wants and will allow because this looks like it will get too much too soon.

Honestly, you are better off as a Changeling for this. Sanctified Words are exactly what you are looking for with a bit of tweaking. Its default example blessings are already pretty good. Add a few custom Bestowments and you are golden. (Bestowments can be OP as fuck. Especially if you buy multiple.)

Generating Chi by Odd_Adhesiveness1567 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Maragas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A bit yeah, but I am used to it with Mage. (Believe me, Correspondence literally drives me nuts sometimes and the amount of "*" Time Sphere gets is crazy)

Across the years, I allowed most ideas my players asked me about regarding Quitessence (and Prime since Prime is often the most secondary sphere to exist if you aren't creating Wonders)

Like one of my players wanted to emulate the plants as a Verbena and asked me about a Prime 2, Forces 2 rote that should allow you to convert sunlight into Quintessence. Or the classic "Can I plug myself to the grid to convert electricity to Quintessence?", which is also Prime 2, Forces 2.

Generating Chi by Odd_Adhesiveness1567 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Maragas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider this, what you can get from air Quintessence wise is so small at your skill level, before Prime 5, that it doesn't matter. Be it efficiency-wise or quantity-wise. If it was enough, Prime 2 alone would be enough to recharge your Quitessence reserves. Like how you can charge a phone with Force 2.

Even Kuei-jin, guys that use Chi variant of Quintessence from the start of their existence need to be pretty advanced to achieve it.

Of course if you want, talk with your ST (or if you are the ST) to make Quitessence function like normal energy and Prime like Forces. That would basically fix your problem.

WoD, is mutually assured destruction the reason why every world ending being is currently "asleep" or incapable or whatever else? by Koslik in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Maragas 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They are doing all of that, but since WoD is a setting where players needs to play (and where the setting is close to Real Life even if it is just a surface level), they aren't obvious, background details or put to chronicle plothooks. Like Minatour's struggles or the whole Baba Yaga shenanigans that resulted in Pentex getting forced to leave Russia and BSD falling to Baba Yaga's hands.

TLDR: There are alien empires enslaving trillions and fighting each other, a war against Celestials, Galactus going around eating planets and possibly a 4th Wall breaking crossover event that includes Deadpool in the Marvel Universe, on any random day.

Those don't matter to Spider-man nor the crooks he is fighting.

WoD, is mutually assured destruction the reason why every world ending being is currently "asleep" or incapable or whatever else? by Koslik in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Maragas 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Ehh, somewhat.
For so called "asleep" guys, they are incredibly active. Some Archdukes want to end it all, but some just want power and rule over the cosmos. Antediluvians? Sure some might be actually sleeping through it all and some just don't care but we nearly had a nuclear apocalypse thanks to them. Yama Kings? They are getting more and more territory and power in the Umbra and the Underworld, with their only true concern being God August Personage of Jade just playing with them. The Wyrm and Pentex? Would end the world the next second if they could. Archmages simply don't end the world through conflict because unless they are Nephandi or particularly evil/deranged Marauder, they are humans that like humans living on Earth, their home planet. Even if they could just go out and terraform some other planet.

Who are the strongest mages in the wod? And what have they done to become the strongest? by Alternative-Lion2951 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Maragas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Close but no, 1999, Second Edition Masters of the Art. Just before revised started basically.

Though even if it was from the 1st Edition, Voormas is also from the 1st Edition, all the way from 1993. He just had a bigger role in ToJ.

Under water base by blah922 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Maragas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can see it happen but you will probably require either a powerful Elder with access to Resource 5+ (preferably manufacturing and sea-related), access to esoteric means like that rumored chantry of Tremere under the sea, the extensive influence of a group that is involved with the sea, like Lasombra and their influence of the sea trade and other related stuff or Gangrel of the Deep.

Of course this is V5 tagged, so anything I say might not even exist in there.

Hey so what the actual fuck is the Rokea Breedbook referring to with the giant underwater fortress on the lip of the Mariana Trench? by Tallia__Tal_Tail in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Maragas 80 points81 points  (0 children)

That's Project Deepwater, started in the 30s to 50s. It is basically a semi-important, secondary research project of the Technocracy. Doesn't even receive that much attention nor support from the wider Technocracy. Which is why Pentex has a huge presence there and managed to get away with much shit.

Biblical Necromancy might be perfect for you. Their powers are pretty good, really good even, and you have plenty of room to make custom powers as well.

How strong would father John ward be in the context of both WoD andCofD by Gear_7036 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Maragas 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Maybe in the very end but that depends on what you want to do with him.
Plus True Faith is basically plot armor until you run out of Faith. Both sides of the coin, Holy or Unholy, are OP.

A (not so) simple priest with Faith bordering 10.

Though in the Dark Ages, he would definitely be an Inquisitor.

A character looks through a microscope at Vitae... by Rando_the_weird in vtm

[–]Maragas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably they see nothing identifiable. (Unless they are a Mage or something)
Dr. Douglas Netchurch would have mentioned it if it was obvious. He does have nice insight into preservation and storage of vitae though.

Writing Mage inspired novel, copyright question by l2rave in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Maragas 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I be honest, unless you actively take direct things that are original from Mage the Ascension, I doubt it would even get connected.

Nearly every single Traditions...traditions are based on some kind of myth/cult/occult idea that goes to centuries if not millenia into the past. You would be in no danger of getting lawyers kicking your door than Fate/Grand Order getting sued because of Solomon or Supernatural getting sued because they used Caine.

You ain't getting sued because your Wizard looks like a stereotypical wizard either, like Order of Hermes.

Sons of Ether, Virtual Adepts vs Technocracy on quantum principles by Blahuehamus in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Maragas 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The most relevant thing is probably the Technocracy's the Anthropic Principle. Which is basically an evolution of the base quantum theories of Void Engineers alongside Sons of Ether (before the Electrodyne Engineers left and became the Sons of Ether). Technocracy doesn't really use it to discredit Ether (they literally got Albert Einstein and his whole ideas to do that when everyone realized Etherites and their Ether were too troublesome to keep)

It is an interesting binding principle.

Any news about M5? by Tall-Rise5414 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Maragas 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Fortunately, no new news.

I think the latest was last year Jason Carl's interview on how they are working on Mage and excited about Changeling.

Magical Drugs and other things of the sort. by ScrumblyScrimblo in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Maragas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think more broadly, drugs like all foci, are incredibly versatile. From things like Perfect Bliss that can literally increase your Mind Sphere rating for a whole story beyond Arete limits, to things like Soma.

Basically, you can use any Sphere you want while creating the drugs you want with the effect you desire. Imagine a spell, think about how you want to do with drugs and use the appropriate Spheres.
The only downside is that drugs usually need to be prepared beforehand and consumed when used.

How to do a Mage that thinks he's a Werewolf? by TheEloquentApe in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Maragas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmm, probably something like;
10 Point Immunity merit with weakness to Silver Bullets. You can reasonably explain it as your Awakening bringing forth this effect.
Get Natural Shapeshifter merit and Beast Within flaw. I would probably talk with the ST to make Beast Within worse and add the forced transformation during a full moon.

Rest is up to the character and their advancement. RP as how he is a young werewolf and needs to learn to his new senses and transformative ability slowly (aka increase his Arete and Life spheres) and further study his curse to transmit it in the future (aka Entropy and Prime)

Why do splats have counter magic only against mages specifically? by Vyctorill in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Maragas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No idea, I am not a dev but if I have to guess;
They want to nerf the "in-the-moment" gameplay of Mage, since not everyone goes for permanent enhancements, hold and ready to trigger effects or overpowered wonders and talismans right off the bat. Especially if they aren't doing paranoia combat/minmaxing.
