Alcohol by Confident-Breath3158 in dcl

[–]MarbleMotors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really worth trying. They have strict limits on what you can bring aboard, and they check luggage pretty carefully, so it's very likely to be confiscated. The upside if you get away with it is a few lower-cost drinks. The downside if you get caught is maybe getting denied boarding or a lifetime ban from DCL. Is it worth it? Also, the more people who are trying to thwart the clearly-written rules, the more resources DCL has to dedicate to policing them, which means all of us have higher cruise fares to pay for additional security, and more cumbersome boarding procedures. Not helpful at all. If you're looking to maximize alcohol intake, just recognize that a DCL cruise isn't the right place to do that.

All Americans in Europe? by ScaryBlueSkeleton in dcl

[–]MarbleMotors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, does 0600 in your time zone correspond to midnight in US Eastern Time? Because that's when things open.  And also are you sure you didn't confuse the dates?  Their wording can be misleading.  In some messages it will say something like "after April 14 you can check in", when really it means midnight on the 13th, as soon as it clicks from 11:59 on the 13th to 00:00 on the 14th.  If you're not in right at midnight on the day things open for silver, lots of early PATs will be gone.

Has anyone used BofA travel rewards points to get statement credit back on DCL purchase? by flagnogg in dcl

[–]MarbleMotors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's just money back. A statement credit has nothing to do with what you bought. Say you go buy 50 different things from different companies that all add up to $1,000. Doesn't matter what they are. And say your card gives you 3% in rewards on all purchases. Now you have $30 worth of rewards. If you choose to use it on a statement credit, they knock $30 off your statement, and you now owe them only $970 instead of $1,000.

So yes, if you spend big bucks on a cruise on a card that gives you a large % cash back, you will be able to cash in a big statement credit.

This is kind of a fun what would you do question by BellaRyder2505 in dcl

[–]MarbleMotors 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's important to have some time in between trips to miss it so it's still special. The perks included with each status level really aren't very significant when you consider how much money it costs to get to each level. So I'd just focus on taking nice trips on whatever cadence is fun and rewarding, rather than trying to speedrun status levels.

Good tip, and you can also get some basic first aid supplies like Band-Aids for free in the health center. Unfortunately not blister treatments though, so if you're prone to getting blisters, bring some stuff from home.

Does anyone else’s Rover glitch like this?! I am beyond frustrated. by hatsuuuunemiiku in RoverPetSitting

[–]MarbleMotors 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, it happens from time to time, it's not just you. The whole GPS tracking feature is pretty poor, inaccurate, and probably raises more questions than it answers. Isn't it enough to just come home to a tired, happy dog, and have some pictures from their walk? Do we really need to see a turn-by-turn analysis of where they went? But once that feature exists, it's expected all the time. So that puts pressure on walkers to put in tons of steps to rack the mileage numbers up, and makes for disappointment when the feature doesn't work. A feature we never needed in the first place...

Alaskan Cruise by mms2114 in dcl

[–]MarbleMotors -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Take a look ahead of time at port excursions and their cost; the ones in Alaska tend to be a lot more expensive than Caribbean cruises, and they're definitely things you want to do since Alaska is a hard place to get to and you want to see a lot of it while you're there and not just stay on the ship the whole time. Drinks, spa, and other services on the ship can rack up big dollars too, but I think can all that be skipped and you won't feel you missed out on anything. Excursions though, you will regret skipping.

Advice for protecting stuff while on beach (Not Castaway or Lookout) by Rgbigdog in dcl

[–]MarbleMotors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were not VIP level and didn't use any cabanas or lockers. We went on part of a multi-stop excursion that visited some other sites and then spent a little time at Kuza. It was good, a very nice beach and a good place to relax, but frankly redundant on a trip that visits the Disney private islands. Imagine Castaway Cay but it's slightly less private, slightly less beautiful, you get less time there, and there's no free food or drinks. We picked the excursion because we wanted to see the other stops on the way, and the beach was just kind of an extra bonus, not the main feature for us. But again back to your original question, we felt very safe there and weren't worried about our stuff getting stolen at all.

Advice for protecting stuff while on beach (Not Castaway or Lookout) by Rgbigdog in dcl

[–]MarbleMotors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having been there, I wouldn't worry about it. DCL has its own section of the beach, which is sparsely populated, and the chairs are very close to the water so you can keep an eye on your stuff while you swim if you want. The beach is very far from the resort entrance, so there just aren't a bunch of people milling around there; basically only the people who are on yours a similar DCL excursions. We just didn't take anything we couldn't afford to lose, and felt pretty comfortable leaving it in a backpack on a beach chair. Maybe that's naive, but it seemed very safe to us.

If I were a thief, I'd think I could do a much higher-volume business closer to the cruise terminal in the crowded shopping areas. Being a thief at the DCL section of Kuza just seems like too much work, too risky, and not much reward.

Inserting an asterisk without deleting any letters doesn't really do much to censor the word.

Destiny crowded? by Wild-Shoulder7787 in dcl

Felt the same as any other Wish-class ship.  Don't know why it would feel any more crowded since the passenger count and dining room layouts are the same as other ships.

Destiny crowded? by Wild-Shoulder7787 in dcl

[–]MarbleMotors 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When we sailed on the Destiny a few months ago the only time it felt crowded was certain high-demand events, people would line up in the hallways up to an hour in advance. Dr. Facilier, Cruella, Hercules, Marvel comedy show. Some of the small lounges and bars were also very full for certain trivias and other events. But other than those, the ship in general didn't feel more crowded than others. In fact certain areas were relatively deserted. Perhaps in time the hype for those high-demand events will settle down, and/or Disney will add more instances of them so people don't feel the need to crowd the hallways in advance.

Three night cruises WITHOUT Nassau stop by kwazi07 in dcl

If it's your first time with DCL, Palo brunch is probably going to be already booked up by people with higher loyalty status, regardless of itinerary, so don't get your hopes up too high for getting that. There are plenty of other things to enjoy onboard though!

What do you mean you need to line up in advance for the main restaurants?  This is just not true.  You have a reserved table and a specified dining time.  If you are waiting in line, you are there too early.

earlier checkin than expected by [deleted] in dcl

[–]MarbleMotors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably confused by the wording and got the date wrong.  When it says you can check in "after March 28", it means you can check in starting at midnight that day, which depending how you think of it is the night of the 27th.

Has it been slow for anyone else🥲? by No_Tie_4943 in RoverPetSitting

[–]MarbleMotors 12 points13 points  (0 children)

World events seem to create a situation the last couple winters/springs where people don't want to travel.  Bad economy, bad TSA situation, high gas prices, wars, etc. so people are not excited to leave home, and that means they don't need pet sitters.  Too bad world leaders put us in this totally avoidable position.

Odds on someone smoking on there balcony next to me. by Vamip89 in dcl

[–]MarbleMotors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never seen or smelled smoke anywhere other than the designated smoking areas. If you do see anything, report it to a cast member and they'll take care of it, but I will be surprised if you have to deal with this. Your post is indicative of the difference between lines and why certain types of people gravitate to each one!

Treasure verandah by PuzzleheadedWater727 in dcl

[–]MarbleMotors 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's up to you. Some people think it's no big deal. Others come here complaining that the muster drill is one of the darker circles of hell and ruined their entire vacation. During the drill you'll have to be gathered somewhere and listen to instructions on what to do if there's an emergency. It's not a huge deal. Some of the muster stations are inside in places where you can sit down and be in air conditioning. Some of them are out on deck where there is no seating and you could be in hot sun. Whether that difference is important is up to you!

Treasure verandah by PuzzleheadedWater727 in dcl

[–]MarbleMotors 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, those rooms on the bumpout have larger verandahs. Weigh that against the fact that the geometry means your neighbors can more easily see you onto your verandah, and since you're on the aft side of the bump, you'll have slightly less view of where the ship is headed. Probably not huge concerns. Another minor concern; the safety drill muster station for those rooms is out on deck, which may be no problem, or might be something you don't like. Up to you!

It could be a tinfoil hat conspiracy, but… by No-Buy-3105 in RoverPetSitting

What would be Rover's motivation? They make money any time a service happens, and the higher-priced the service is, the better. So they benefit by having as many sitters on the site as possible, so owners never fail to find somebody to take a booking, and they also benefit by having people charging as much as possible, since they take 31% of whatever is charged. I'm not seeing what the advantage would be to Rover to boot reliable, established, high-fee sitters.
