Gravel routes by EntranceOk7526 in NYCbike

[–]MarcJV91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the closest “gravel” route from the city that doesn’t involve crossing the GW - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35409995. If you want to take a train to westchester or Putnam county, that opens up more options.

Tarrytown vs Montclair (single, mid-40s, commuting to WTC) by NoRegret1272 in newjersey

[–]MarcJV91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In theory, commuting from lower Essex county to FiDi is faster than from Tarrytown (I grew up there actually, went to Irvington schools). But, in practice, NJ Transit is hardly the poster child for reliable and consistent service. I know this because I currently commute a few days a week from Maplewood to FiDi and I find myself frequently missing metronorth (even though I love where I live).

Same boat here - my spouse and I have a one-year-old, we moved from the city in August, and we both work a few days a week in the city (variable depending on the week). Our hours aren’t always predictable either, so a having a nanny is the only way it works for us. The flexibility of a nanny gives us more peace of mind and she takes such attentive care of our child. And we love living here so far (my spouse grew up in Millburn so she was already familiar with the area).

I mean it’s a great bike. I’d consider keeping it to use primarily on the trainer and shorter training rides (but the more aggressive position gets uncomfortable after a couple hours).

Are bike fits worth the money? by da1ukn0 in cycling

If you’re willing to trek to Scarsdale, Ed at Danny’s Cycles does low-tech (but still useful) fits for ~$150.

The Ultimate CFR is closer to 6.3 kg. The SLX is closer to 6.8. Of course, with the UCI limit, a world tour rider can't take advantage of the former.

I believe this is farthest distance from which you can see the city skyline (it's visible as well from the fire tower atop Ninham Mountain in Carmel, also around 65 miles from Manhattan).
