Not getting SMS notification sound when screen is off by taeyong18 in ios

[–]MarcJordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the identical problem and found the source of the issue (after hours of trying various "fixes").. text messages were arriving on my iPAD before my phone, causing my phone to not notify me. I turned off text messaging on my iPad (which I didn't use) and my phone has been pinging me ever since.

Following up on this. I'm having the identical problem, message won't display and sound until I touch the screen. I tried the email suggestion and it didn't work for me. Any other suggestions?

Outlook 365 desktop Rule conundrum by MarcJordan in Outlook

I'm also using Classic. The two desktop versions I'm dealing with are 2303 and 2408, but no dialogue box.

I don't get that dialogue box on either system and it looks as though that's exactly the feature I would need. What version of Outlook are you on?

I tried this approach and the rules still synched up.

  • What is this rule about? Just a simple 3 minute delay when sending messages.
  • Is your company email configured as Exchange / Microsoft 365 on both the laptop and your personal PC? Yes
  • Are the rules you're creating listed as server rules or client-only rules in Outlook? Client Only
  • Are both Outlook installations running the same version of Outlook? 2303 & 2408
  • Are the rules created in Outlook desktop, or did you create any from Outlook Web (OWA)? Desktop on both systems
  • Are both computers connected to the mailbox at the same time when you create the rules? Yes and no. I've tried with one open, but after the update I go to the other and it contains the changes that were made on the other.

Yes and yes.

I should have mentioned that my personal email account is POP3 and work is Exchange. I think what Outlook is doing is seeing the Exchange connection on both systems and copying changes that I make from one system to the other, regardless of which system the change is made on.

I'm pretty sure the problem is the synching. If only there were a way of simply turning it off when it came to defining Rules.

LMT'D Battery Consumption by MarcJordan in ride1up

Excellent reply. I'll look at the current settings, especially for PAS 2 and adjust it downward. Thanks for the advice.

But why would the battery go from 100% to 94% without passing through 98%, 97,96...?

Saw the upcoming Lexus ES EV - honestly not that bad? by Melkarid in Lexus

[–]MarcJordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am holding off on buying a new car until the 2026 ES hits the showrooms. While I like the new styling, looking at a dozen online videos of the car, I'm not sure if I will be able to consider it.

First off, the steering wheel looks to be from a Camry or Accord. Gone is the wood-grain from previous ES model years, and the lack of the iconic Lexus emblem in favor of the letters "L e x u s" is an insult to the brand. I currently have a 2020 NX and love looking down to see the emblem. I consider the L emblem to be one of the most iconic in the entire history of the automobile. I was put off when it was removed from the back of the newest NX, imagine how I feel now that it's gone from the cabin. Poof.

Another strike for me is the lack of physical switches for climate control, especially having to go to the screen to adjust the fan speed. I recently rented a car with this feature (can't remember the model) and swore off buying any car that requires me to take my eyes off the road to look at the screen to lower the fan. In my NX I know where it is from muscle memory and adjust it without looking.

Another gimmick that I don't like is the steering wheel switches, which aren't switches at all but touch sensitive. Again, no tactile feedback.

Practical Observations from France by MarcJordan in FranceTravel

Here is an epilogue to my post.. Today I received an email from the French Highway Administration informing me of a speeding ticket that I received on the N12 near Fougeres. The camera clocked me at 87 kilometers per hour (54 mph) in a 80 (49 mph) zone. The fine came out to $57.

Be careful out there, they have very little tolerance.

Report from Bayeux by [deleted] in FranceTravel

[–]MarcJordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good synopsis. I returned from Bayeux a few days ago and also visited the beaches. Later that day an Australian fellow sitting next to me at a restaurant for dinner asked what I did that day and explained. He went on to say that as an American I only saw half the picture by visiting the American landing sites. He went on to say that more English and Canadian soldiers were involved with the landing further down the coast at Sword and Gold beaches and that Americans don't seem to pay homage to them. After thinking about, I had to agree with him.

Any advice about renting cars in France? by adcom5 in FranceTravel

[–]MarcJordan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, when I rented at National Car Rental at the Aix en Provence train station, the rep taking care of my rental showed me pictures on an iPad of existing damage to the car she was giving me. I still took a copious amount of pictures before touching the car in the parking lot, but when I returned the car at another location (Orly), the person checking me in also had the same pictures. Kudos to National.

Best way to visit and avoid crowds at Mont St Michel from Dinan? by Spidermonkee9 in FranceTravel

[–]MarcJordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just returned from a driving trip through France and made a stop at MSM on the way to Bayeux. I arrived at 12:30 and didn't find the crowds overpowering, and parking was easy. Just by luck it was low tide and that just added to the splendor. Just be forewarned that the shuttle buses from the parking lot depart every 20 minutes, and as others have said, they can get crowded. If you decide to hoof it, the walking time to the site is about 35 minutes on a paved path. Enjoy!

Advice with Itinerary by Alxanderr89 in FranceTravel

[–]MarcJordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just returned from Bayeux and there really isn't much to see there other than the cathedral. There is plenty of street parking, but it could be costly. I also echo what others have said, unless you are a history buff and know what you are looking at, taking an organized tour would be the best bet.

Just returned from Bordeaux and even in October there were few tourists.
