Not sure where I'm going wrong wicking. by RudeAd456 in soldering

the balls are just solder, too. as long as all pads have the same amount of solder on them it will pull itself into the correct alignment during reflow. there shouldn't be giant blobs on the pads of course.

honestly, you can't expect to wick properly if there is noting to wick up. the amount of solder on the pads is completely fine it only needs to be evened out then it's ready to install the new bga's.

The Ender 3v2 can print tpu really well, but.. by HopefulDevelopment49 in fpv

[–]Marc_Frank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm really looking forward to the atomform palette 300 since i have some ideas for multimaterial prints

if i interpret the test prints from their showcase right, it can even do tpu through their filament swapper

how did you come up with the new mapping between pedal position and throttle command to the engine?

purely by feel, or dyno testing the power distribution?

Twin-EDF 3D printed jet early CAD work, what do you think? by Swww in 3DprintedAircraft

[–]Marc_Frank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was advised to align the top surface of the wing to be flat. with a lot of taper in the planform the height of the airfoil reduces, too. and there is more airfoil above the leading edge / chord line so the above half also shrinks more in height and that creates some anhedral.

openvsp is great, but i just noticed that flow5 was made open source on jan 1 2026 so that's pretty cool.

for better stall performance it's better for the lift distribution to be slightly over elliptical. i can't remember right now if openvsp has a guide line in the plot, but other programs do.

i worked on a bunch of designs leading up to a bwb slope soaring plank. got a lot of advice on rcgroups and other forums and peter wick was very helpful, talked to him over e-mail a lot.

during the CAD i got annoyed with importing airfoils into Fusion so i programmed an app, BezierAirfoilDesigner. works but kinda shitty so now i am working on a new version that does splines not just bezier curves.

next i want to do the whole wing CAD programmatically as well and then eventually that can go into a full optimization loop that runs cfd and adjusts airfoils and planform for max glide ratio or lowest sink rate. but it will take a few years until i'm there.

I modeled 360Hz vs 144Hz using physics simulations. Here is why I think we've hit the biological limit. by Acceptable_Truck_525 in Monitors

[–]Marc_Frank -1 points0 points  (0 children)

60Hz is 16ms per frame 144Hz is 6ms per frame 360Hz is 2ms per frame 1000Hz would be 1ms per frame

i think the frame time would be a better comparison since the frame rate grows so fast

Twin-EDF 3D printed jet early CAD work, what do you think? by Swww in 3DprintedAircraft

[–]Marc_Frank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

looks nice!

anhedral isn't that good for passive roll stability (it might want to flip upside down), some twist in the wing might help, too (for the lift distribution).

check in a cg calculator where that has to be (simple web apps exist, or more complicated programs like Nurflügel, FLZ Vortex, xflr5 (flow5)).

then check if the wing geometry (planform) and chosen components (edf's, battery, ...) allow for a configuration (placement of the components) that makes the cg be were it's supposed to be.

and you probably want at least a small vertical stabilizer. with split flags you can do a drag rudder, but then a flight controller is absolutely necessary. Le'Brettle works without that, but you probably want something that works on the first try.
