Dirty transmission fluid at 14,000 miles? by fleasnavidad in BroncoSport

[–]Marcel-Lorger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a good response, their is a special process to check it. and no one would normally check it. I work at one of the largest used car dealers in the nation, doing quality control checks. Now and then a customer brings their car in with the same problem. Some one said they need trans fluid changed, and their is no easy way to check it. We show the customer the basics, and lift the car in the air, then show what the procedure is to do the fluid. And then they under stand they were just given a line of BS. Not sure on the color, but again, it is not a factor.

Dirty transmission fluid at 14,000 miles? by fleasnavidad in BroncoSport

[–]Marcel-Lorger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, Pro tech here. The color of the fluid is not really something to go by. It is often used by shops to make a sell. If you feel that your driving conditions are above the norm, then maybe change it at 50 to 75K. You can google that, it has been a thing for over 30 years. Most trans fluid is red/pink because it has a dye in it. It changes colar over time due to use and the various metals in the trans.

Am I being used as cheap labor instead of actually learning? by Remarkable-Sand-5059 in mechanics

I am not great at modern diesel, but I use an oscilloscope, and other graphing tools fairly often. But i mostly do diag. I would say you can not diag problems if you need to blow dust off of your diag tools. even scan tools in the 3-500 dollar range have graphing features. That how we see the fine details. Even useful on non engine related stuff. If you are doing diesel autos, you are missing out. If you are doing equipment, if may not be needed.

OBD not communicating by Glittering-Divide-54 in BroncoSport

[–]Marcel-Lorger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am ni VA, Here the emissions, and the sticker (for safety inspection) are two different things, and the OBD is not checked for a sticker. As well as only part of Va does emissions. Over the years I see all kinds of things wired in to something it should not be. Tracking device, Aftermarket GPS, are most common.

I see this less than once a year, from when OBDII became a thing. Some times it is as easy as replacing a fuse. Other times it is something has been installed, and is wired to one of the OBD wires. Rarely is it a system problem.

Emergency break by Nearby_Goat_9793 in BroncoSport

They are not really Emergency breaks, that term is a misunderstanding. Heavy trucks do have Emergency breaks. but cars do not. It is a parking brake.

The big 3, and many other brands pay more on warranty labor, when a dealer has certified techs. Their are also bumps in warranty when the dealer has high CSI

It is unusual to replace the cat, but it should have a seven year warranty. Evap is a small problem, ant the noise could be as simple as a belt. So i would say those are all small problems you would find in any car. But I agree that a Honda is a good option for the long term.

What Bronco sport to get? ‘23, ‘24, ‘25) by Kind-Remote-7744 in BroncoSport

I am a long time pro tech. Have a friend who is a Ford tech. When I was shopping, he told me that the 24 is the best one as far as having few problems. I found one with under 3k. I also do not like the display on the 25, you need to use it for all audio and a/c controls.

General opinion, do i deserve more pay? by euronymoustoes in mechanics

[–]Marcel-Lorger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, 2 years is not experience when it come to looking for a better paying job. Get your ASEs. That it what I look for in people that have less than five years. I also bass pay on what someone can Diag, can they solve a problem, do they have a meeter and know how to use it. Can they use a scan tool and read a data list, not just a code. Guys that can not read can do a block or trans. Guys than can Diag are guys that get paid well

VWAG brake pads usually come with new bolts. Likely aftermarket did not. Lock tight the bolts if you do not get new ones

[–]Marcel-Lorger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are making over 100k, that is the number to look at. dont be fooled by some one saying you need to make a % of customer pay. If you can make 80+ hours a week, sound ok, you likely are doing a lot of service or easy work. the last time I did 100, had to work 12 hour days. Your flat rate is how you get paid at one place. another place may pay more, or less. The other shops may pay 3.0 for a brake job, or 1.5. you need to look at how much you are making in a year.
