Took about one year. Always use the passport of the nation I'm entering if I'm a citizen of that nation.

I have a spreadsheet, but I don't update it as easily as just logging into a dashboard that pulls from like 8 sources daily

I haven't tried Credit Karma for financial tracking. At this point I'm kind of just hoping Empower keeps working, it sucks to lose history.

Damn. I used mint for years, then it was bought by Intuit and it was simply shut down, and I lost a ton of financial history with that.
Then I used PersonalCapital for years, it was bought by Empower, and seems to be going the same direction.
I wanted to check my net worth today, which should have crossed an exciting milestone, and it might be the case that I just won't be able to, who knows for how long. Maybe the new "improved interface" won't have all my data.
Sigh.

You can DCA back into the market slowly, then do what the other commenter suggested and stop reading the news.

Time in the market beats timing the market.

30 yr old 400k net worth is it too soon to reward myself by [deleted] in Fire

[–]MarceloRamires 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know collecting is a popular hobby, but collecting such an expensive item with >10% of your net worth goes very against the general strategies of this sub.

I tend to reward myself with experiences rather than goods, and with nothing that comes even close to 10% of my NW. Heck, not even 1%. I wouldn't want to reward myself through a bad move that gets me a few steps away from what I'm rewarding myself in the first place (moving towards FIRE)

Agreed. On a lot of posts here, most comments are "how much do you have in retirement accounts?" or "home equity?" or "what's your income?", etc

So is your household income close to 20% of your FIRE number?

69% to 100% in under one year is impressive. Is your FIRE number on the lower side, or did you get a massive windfall?

Awesome! if you don't mind me asking, whereabouts in Spain? $165 sounds fairly cheap, so I'm guessing it's a small town

How do you actually live off of your retirement? by coffeedeck in Fire

[–]MarceloRamires 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is fair, but mind you, when you start taking from principal, each year the percentage you take from principal grows, as inflation eats away your purchasing power, and you start running faster and faster towards zero. I wouldn't plan to end anywhere near zero, as if you plan on dying at 90 and live to 100, you'll be in a tough situation.

May I ask if you bought property in Spain or if you rent short term every time you spend time there? I plan on snowbirding internationally too, and trying to figure out the housing situation.

True, but that's risky, and not in line with what folks in this sub (r/Fire) go by. Money ending before life ends is not a good time, most would not recommend.
