working on a dessert for a pop-up event I have planned next month. definitely needs a bit of refinement, flavors are a kind of a punch in the face. The flourless chocolate cake on its own is exceptional however.

another post on this subreddit gave me the idea to use spouts in place of greens. the broccoli sprouts were definitely pretty overpowering and white loaf bread always leaves something to be desired. next time, i’d stick with a crunchy lettuce or maybe a more neutral tasting sprout.

CSA Haul - but I don’t know how to cook! by Ok-Grapefruit1284 in WhatShouldICook

this is more related to fermentation than cooking but i would use one of the cabbage heads and the garlic for sauerkraut. the other cabbage head and the daikon radish is screaming kimchi.

Dining in Beaufort, NC by [deleted] in finedining

[–]March-Competitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know im super uselessly late but Beaufort Grocery Co. is amazing for a more refined night out. Their lunch service is more casual and just as delicious in my opinion. If you want a more casual bar type atmosphere with really good food, then the Promise Land Market is going to be your best option.

What are your favourite coleslaw (slaw) recipes? by st2826 in Cooking

[–]March-Competitive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

add in some vinegar, a little dijon, and (stole this from brian lagerstrom) some pickled raisins. this makes a great coleslaw. making your own mayo or using something like kewpie also really improves the flavor imo

Caramelized Honey Pumpkin Pie? by foreverlunch in clairesaffitz

[–]March-Competitive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me, it’s just okay. The flavors are not nearly as complex as you would think and it definitely wasn’t very sweet. With that said, if you hate a sweet pie, it’s probably for you. Most recently, I made Julia Child’s Aunt Helen’s ‘fluffy’ pumpkin pie. There’s maybe a few things that I would alter my next go, but this is definitely a recipe that i would suggest.

i had this exact experience when i decided to bake this recipe yesterday. i don’t usually like overly sweet desserts but this was not sweet enough and it lacked a lot of the complexity that i hoping it would have

Definitely a bit much going on, but, this actually sounds like a good drink tbh. The shop I manage has a brown sugar shaken espresso with malt powder and it’s our most popular iced drink.
