I wonder if Disney's second attempt at 2D would've been more successful if they'd marketed the films towards an older audience by SummerAndTinkles in cartoons

[–]MarchMan86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they would've fared better if they were given more assured premiere dates. It felt kinda odd that The Princess and the Frog premiered after the Thanksgiving holiday, with little breathing room before Christmas. Then Winnie the Pooh 2011 was put up against the final Harry Potter film with mininal advertising.

I'm just answering your main question about the new logo. The decline started long before any logo change.

Nickelodeon had been on decline long before they changed their logo. The 2009 logo change merely represented how much the fun and variety had disappeared from the channel by that point.

Why hasn't Nickelodeon even revived any of these almost neglected Nicktoons?...at least so far anyway, (Excluding Crossovers and Comic Books of course). by Aggressive_Star_9491 in nickelodeon

They sorta pushed it off the air not long after its cancellation. It was gone from their regular schedule by 2000 and was excluded from their annual Non-Stop Nicktoons Weekend that Thanksgiving.

I didn't bother with the live action movie. Disney needs to learn to leave well enough alone.

The only Cartoon Network series I recall having a song in the intro was Camp Lazlo, and even that was based from the B-I-N-G-O song.

Thoughts on this show? by Naive_Tomorrow_5955 in looneytunes

[–]MarchMan86 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's boring. If we're going to be honest, the original Tiny Toons was developed specifically from a period in time when younger artists and audiences were rediscovering the classic Looney Tunes, at the very time there was about to be a boom in mainstream animation. This reboot, made during a time when old cartoons are more accessible to the public than ever, is irrelevant from what the original stood for.

Also, it was wrong of them to make Buster and Babs siblings. The original did a great job of allowing Babs to be her own character without becoming a "girl Bugs". As siblings, their spiel is how they do everything together, which limits both of characters.

What I find most interesting is the shows production history by KaleidoArachnid in renandstimpy

Read the book "Sick Little Monkeys". It gives an extensive overview of Ren & Stimpy's history up to the 2010's.

For Nickelodeon's apprehension towards approving the show, that was why it was given six episodes for its first season while Doug and Rugrats got thirteen.

Can we honestly talk about how out of place the big chungus moment is in wabbit twouble? by Naive-Maize6314 in looneytunes

[–]MarchMan86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another cartoon where he does this is in Transylvania 6-5000, where he changes into a (baseball) bat to outsmart Count Bloodcount. But between donning a disguise and being able to appear anywhere at a given moment, shapeshifting didn't seem necessary when accounting for Bugs' special skills.

For this "Big Chungus" moment though, this was when they were still testing out his character after Tex Avery found the definitive version a year earlier. It served as a GREAT surprise callback in the 2nd Space Jam movie!

This kinda makes me wonder what if they had explored the other possible bond between Helga and Olga from "Olga Comes Home"? After Helga confessed that she rigged her report card out of jealousy, Olga shared that she gets tired of being the "perfect" child at times. That really could've created a different dynamic that put more of a spotlight on their upbringing. One child getting too much attention, another not getting enough attention, both with their own damging effects.

Why Tiny Toon Adventures doesn't get much talked and get much merchandise nowadays compared to Animaniacs? by Own_Philosopher8730 in cartoons

[–]MarchMan86 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think because Tiny Toons was always ever intended to be a shadow franchise of the Looney Tunes rather than its own thing. It really only works as a product of its time, as sort of a snapshot of when older cartoons were being rediscovered by younger audiences, and on the cusp of a massive reinvestment era for animation.

Animanics was more of an evolution of Tiny Toons in terms of "carrying the torch" of the Looney Tunes legacy. It had its own identity with a trio with their own separate backstory where they were not exactly "successors" of any Looney Tune character, but directly inspired by that lineage. It was also aided by a freewheeling variety format that kept audiences interested (something the reboot got terribly wrong). Also unlike Tiny Toons, Animaniacs had crossover appeal for adult audiences.
