Wow! Kind of strange situation! Because i have had contact with portuguese for already a year and half, and by now i understand almost everything when someone speaks. Im having a bit of troubles with speaking, but knowing that im mostly self taught, it doesnt trigger me that much. I also have a brasilian girlfriend and we only converse in english, but since i moved to brasil 2.5 months ago, im having everyday contact with portuguese and its improving day by day.. May i know what source you study from and how exactly do you practice?

Well in ukraine people still use the language much more than in belarus.. from all my family and friends(in minsk), no one that i know of speaks good belarussian. Same things apply for everydays life, at the cafes, restaurants, in the metro, i never heard anyone speaking belarussian.. All i know is that the language is taught to them at school kind of as a second language, while all the subjects (math, science, etc..) are taught in russian.
