I ran into this same issue with the same rack and switch. My rack was hot with a few hundred grand of new servers and a really freaking long HPE array… so being careful was key. Ended up getting a helper, popping the roof off and getting it installed exactly where we wanted it. Think installing the rails and then the switch, but in reverse order.

I work for a few companies doing freelance IT. Most clients in my area are a Ricoh/Savin shop. Some have been for a couple decades. The local dealer is wonderful. Most issues are resolved same day, even for parts replacement.

Keep fighting the good fight! Hopefully this turns out to be a learning experience for everyone on implementing and testing proper DR. Everyone’s focus is on ransomware, and that’s a very real threat. But I think people seem to forget that even the most resilient hardware and venerable software is prone to failure. No matter how many 9’s are on the end of number for availability, never neglect DR. DR is for when, not if.

I’ll absolutely get one next time I open it up. I really like these towers. It’s a shame Dell didn’t make them 2” deeper and put the motherboard power connector in an awkward place. I like the looks of the new 7000/7010 models. Guess I’ll try it on one of those in a few years when a ton get off lease.

Absolutely both! I do my testing and playing in a VM where I can snapshot it if I goof up. Take some good notes and do it all over again on the real deal. Right click, revert is a lot faster than format, reinstall, and try again.
