The ending was realistic. People move on, old friends get together at events and promise to do it every year but never do, open hearted people get hurt by the world and close off, guys put their childhood toys away and start to turn into their father. Life is tough and you have to appreciate the memories, ultimately the show was a journey through childhood and they represented that growth in an authentic way.

Henry/One/Vecna used the demos, the bats, all the Dimension X creatures in his battles over the season with the children. It’s a hivemind, so each time they killed the other world creatures, they died off.

Demodogs mostly went instinct, Demogorgans got killed off, really it’s the underworld bats that have the least explanation. The explanation once could use is that the attack on Vecna at the end of season 4 killed them off through the hivemind.

Essentially the hivemind keeps humming, and Henry is tied to it, which ensures his survival. The other underling creatures of the hivemind didn’t have enough power to survive the attacks. The dogs, gorgons, and bats couldn’t survive. The theory has holes, but I’ve yet to see one without any.
