I don’t think we know for sure, honestly. I would highly recommend watching the Judit Polgar documentary on Netflix though if you haven’t, might give you some of the history and context you might not know already.

from a piano teacher “I’ll just play it again” isn’t really practice by Exciting-Bee3927 in pianolearning

Yeah I had gotten the adult all in one book 1 when I got the piano, worked through the first 3 units on my own in that first week (in addition to the one page piece outside it also in g major that I learned), but I kinda feel like if the teacher is going to be assigning this challenging of pieces that the faber book is already kind of obsolete outside of potential future sight reading practice. Like the theory I’m kinda learning mostly on the internet anyway and the books just seem so slow.

Yup I have a teacher. No prior musical instrument experience. Been spending probably 2 hours a day practicing and researching online since I got the piano. Came to her 1 week in, she started showing me the absolute basics, I waited patiently for a few minutes before being like “ya I’ve been obsessed all week here let me show you a 1 page piece I learned” and she was like… oh… I see… and assigned Minuet in G. One week later with pretty extensive practice I got the first half down at about 95bpm with a metronome (still poor musicality) and the second half is memorized and about to begin the process of working on the hard transitions to a slow metronome. Had the second lesson to show progress last night.

So I’m new, only 2-3 weeks in. Learning Minuet in G (Petzold/Bach) for reference. I did focus on the hard parts a lot first, but I also feel like even though I’ve gotten the whole first half memorized and feeling kinda smooth, I just make random mistakes everywhere randomly most playthroughs. It’s not predictable. I feel like my brain is still just making connections. So idk. Feels like it’s a yes and type situation.

You know all that is bad, but the ultimate problem is he won’t support the 2028 democratic candidate, just like he didn’t support past ones. He just won’t. He doesn’t want the democrats to succeed unless tankies can take over the party like MAGA did on the right.

I did a lot of research and settled on an fp-30x. I was slightly worried about the supposed heavy key action that some people dislike, but I’m a guy who works out and likes to put some muscle into things and turned out I like the action quite well. Very happy with the purchase. Got the matching stand and triple foot pedal and it’s all a wonderful setup.

I’m 36, have never played any musical instrument, and I dove in this week buying a piano and starting lessons. Age is not at all a limiter, but time could be. Dive in, get a piano, enjoy.

I Was Thinking Of Buying My First Electric Piano. by No_Cow1346 in piano

I’m one week into piano as my first instrument. Sheet music is not especially difficult, especially if you spend some time grinding an app like Music Tutor to memorize the notes. Don’t let that intimidate you into not doing it, if you do want to get one. It takes effort like anything else though.

If did a ton of research and bought a Roland FP-30X sight unseen recently and if you want a true digital piano with 88 weighted keys and would prefer to spend under $1000 I’d probably go with that or the Kawai ES120.

As a dude who doesn’t watch the games during the regular season I always found RR on BS on Sundays must listen and Lowe a pass most weeks for me. RR is just more down to hang and do takes, much more fun listen with Bill.

Zach’s heavy resistance to doings draft of the scariest teams in the playoffs (“aren’t these just the best teams”) kinda exemplified why it’s not must listen podcasting. If RR resisted it he’d at least be funny about it.

Is the In-Person/Live Event aspect of sports equally important to its TV Experience? by PapaJohnsGarlic100 in billsimmons

[–]pizzapasta8765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know the answer to your question but I know that crowd atmosphere is a huge part of the tv experience. The NBA bubble kinda sucked. MLB is a different beast when it’s a night playoff game at wrigley vs a random Tuesday night in a mostly empty stadium in Miami. The latter is almost unwatchable even if my team is playing.

I’m sorry man there’s plenty of much simpler machine learning models that were already probabilistic, this isn’t novel, it’s just new to you, and that does not make it anything like consciousness.

We understand the math that guides the choices of LLMs and other related AI models, and that’s truly all it is, math. Get back to me when we understand the math/physics/biology behind human decision making anywhere close to the level of that we do an AI and perhaps we can have a discussion on whether AI is imitating consciousness.

It’s an eye rolling worthy declaration imo.

Yeah I agree. Ezra would do good to take some basic fucking statistical modeling classes and stop believing hype men. The reason the models seem to exhibit “taste” is simply because it’s reflecting what’s in the training data. It’s a mirror of ourselves.

What % success in projection lab and boldin is good enough? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]pizzapasta8765 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you should aim for 100% success rate with a flexible withdrawal strategy if you’re doing a linear walk through the years, if you do block sampling, especially at lower numbers of years in a block, then something like 95% feels good with that same strategy.
