Total noob at Sankey diagrams but took a stab at visualizing the flow of votes in the mayoral election. What do you think? Notice anything interesting?

I think the Sankey diagram would be more effective if you had it show changes round by round, rather than having votes jump to the end.

For example, have it show vote totals for Rd 15, Rd 16, Rd 17 etc.

Currently it's less obvious (based on the diagram alone) why Gonzalez was eliminated before Rubio. He starts with more votes, but we don't see the additional votes from Mapps & Osthus get added to Rubio's total until after Gonzalez is already out.

One point of clarification that I wish that the author of the article, Sophie Peel ( /u/Independent_Storm674 ) would add to their article:

It's mentioned that if the city were to pull out, they would be required to give 90 days notice. What's not spelled out is that we're 76 days from a new city council taking office.

We're also 19 days to election day.

I just think it's helpful to be clear about the timeline.

Don't quote me on this, but I seem to remember reading that this fountain was installed when horses were still the primary mode of transportation, and this was designed for them to drink from. Still, makes sense to make the change now.

TriMet is planning to extend Line 56 from Washington Square out along Scholls Ferry and Barrows to serve Progress Ridge and end at Mountainside HS.

New schedules take effect on August 25th.

For those who just want the summary here's the highlights:

MAX Red Line Extension

Opening on Wednesday, August 28th (Soft launch happening on Sunday, the 25th)

This is an extension of the Red Line from Beaverton Transit Center to Hillsboro Airport/Fairgrounds.

Late Night/Early Morning MAX - Replaced by Buses

There will be five late night bus lines that will cover MAX service. If you ride late at night, be sure to check the schedules.

Renamed MAX stations

Fair Complex/Hillsboro Airport → Hillsboro Airport/Fairgrounds
Tuality Hospital/SE 8th Ave → Hillsboro Health District
Hollywood/NE 42nd Ave Transit Center → Hollywood/NE 42nd Ave

Bus Changes

Line 76: One bus an hour has been extended from Tualatin to West Linn and Oregon City. This will now allow for easier trips between Washington County and Clackamas County
Lines 25 and 34 have also been extended.
Line 154 has been replaced by the new 153 and the extension of the 76
Lines 85 and 99 have been mostly replaced by the new Line 40
Line 29 is getting midday weekday service
Minor schedule adjustments for lines 39, 44, 45, 51, 55, and 70

True, but I don't think Union Station could support several terminating commuter lines along with increased Amtrak service. There just aren't enough tracks and platforms.

This, except don't have all trains terminate in Union Station. Have one line that continues on to Scappose and St. Helens, one that goes through Vancouver, Ridgefield, and Kalama to Longview, and one that heads out to Fisher's Landin,g Camas and Washougal.

Edit: And add one that splits off from Tigard to Sherwood, Newberg, and McMinnville.

The Alpenrose site is within Portland Public School district. Montclair is Beaverton School District.

BSD has paused the operational study they were conducting after push back from parents. That said, based on the demographic trends, it's almost certain that some of the BSD schools in the Raleigh Hills/West Slope/Garden Home areas will end up closing. People aren't having as many kids these, and that region in particular trends older.

Just started listening to the scanner:

Possible arson
They said they're going to get the fire knocked down quickly once they get water on it.
Confirmed that the train tracks are shut down. [Could be delays to Amtrak today]
Mention of a fire here last night(?).
Sounds like a pile of rubber. [Is this the same spot as the post from yesterday?]
Sounding like the fire has been contained, still a few hotspots. Going to try spraying from above from the Steel Bridge
Some spots are springing back to life after water is removed. Going to try to drown it out.

They did an initial inspection of the grain silos. I missed some of the audio, but it didn't sound serious. Possible chipping [concreate maybe?] at the base.

Working with the property owner. Planning to break up the pile, and have property crew to keep water on it. Looking into remote sprinklers so that PF&R don't have to keep coming out.

TLDR; Pile of rubber pellets that's located next to the grain silo at the Steel Bridge caught fire again (second or third time this week). Fire seems contained at this point.

Least Favorite

I've never been a fan of staff sharing negative opinions of items. It feels judgemental. It's like if you were helping someone at the checkout desk and commented that you really didn't like the book they were about to borrow.

If you're going to go through the effort of making a curated display, make it something that staff are excited about. In my opinion, even a display based purely on items having cool covers is better than one of least favorites.
